"Greetings Lord Xarus I hope your warp journey from Segmentum Solar was restful. I am afraid you'll need your energy for this one."
"Please see the attached data pile concerning the planet code named "Thanatos" in the Nyx system. This system has been denied to us since early M34, due to a heavy warp storm blocking all possible travel. The area had been largely written out of the history books. However over the last century the storms have subsided and recently a Rogue Trader from the Ashimon Dynasty has traveled to reclaim it in the name of the God-Emperor!"
"Now I am sure you are wondering why all this rates your attention my Lord, I assure you I'm getting to that! You see we are in quite a predicament. The Rogue Trader was lucky to report to us at all. It would seem that a long lost company of the venerable Space Wolves Chapter has been shipwrecked on Thanatos some six millennium, and it seems they have developed some rather unfortunate cultural ideals."
"And yes, before you respond, Exterminatus was my first consideration my Lord! However there is one more facet to this dilemma! The Rogue Trader returned with more than just lance scars across his bow... In their hold we confiscated unusual stone fragments, and after running a quick study aboard our ship’s logic engine we ascertained they are an exact chemical match to the stone making up the Cadian Pylons!"
"As you well know, The Cadian Pylons' ability to cancel the effects of warp taint is unparalled! Of course no where across the breadth of the Imperium has such a material ever been found naturally. Just imagine the possibilities if this material were available in natural quantities upon Thanatos!"
"Ah, thank you for the compliment Lord Xarus, I am glad you are pleased. I have at your disposal multiple companies of Space Marines as well as a Regiment of fine guardsmen. I'm sure that will be ample force to suppress these divergent Wolves, and the other assorted Xenos we've spotted in system... oh did I forget to mention that....."
Welcome to our first Planetary Empires 40k Campaign: The Battle for Thanatos!
Up to 8 people will participate in this campaign, as we fight battles for control over this ancient planet!
This event will start on Monday, November 28th when all participants are invited to attend the creation of the map using Planetary Empires hex-tile system. We'll create the landscape, including spaceports, hive-cities, manufactorum, shield generators...lots of stuff!
From then on each participant can participate in up to two games per week...at their own schedule. Games can be played whenever and whereever you want...Vassal, your house, my house, the mall, the zoo...even while camping! You and your opponent can work out how many points you want to use, and you can make up a new list for every battle if you want...just stick to one Codex.
Before each game participants should check to determine the bonuses they may have for what they control on Thanatos. Bonuses may include extra points; bonus on the "to-go-first" die-roll; or even free Universal Special Rules to go on one or more of your units! I'll post instructions on how to determine this in our game room at the store the night we build the map.
After each game the participants will email/PM me the results of the game to me, and at the end of each week (on Saturday), I'll inform players if they've gained control of a new tile...you'll then have to communicate me which tile you want, and I'll update the map. Doing this in person is best, of course, but we'll arrange it so it can be done remotely.
The Battle for Thanatos will end either on Feb 29th (hey, it's Leap Year, let's do something with that extra day!), or when one player maintains control of 10 or more tiles for one whole week.
There will be a $10 fee to participate, all of which will go to Gift Certificates for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Placement will be determined by number of tiles controlled and number of structures on those tiles.
I can only accomodate 8 people in the campaign, and I'm one of them. Please sign up here, the first 7 people to sign up and pay the entry fee will be able to participate.
Let the Battle for Thanatos being!!
Please limit responses in this thread to signups only. Just respond with what Codex you'll be using, and nothing more. Campaign discussion should be in another thread, please. Thank you!
