With Market Garden completed, (which was a blast by the way) there's been a great deal of discussion about what to do next. Since I've seen it put together before, I'm happy to take the lead on getting an Aces campaign together.
I'd recommend waiting a bit to begin so we have time to let the new location get set up.
Also, a couple of regular 40k players and other Ordo regulars who haven't busted out their FOW armies in a while seemed very interested in getting started with an infantry company.
Since this is an escalation campaign, it would be really easy for us to play some tune up games, and sandbox type stuff to test things out while people are assembling and painting their troops. If we have some new players that want to get in on the action it's easy enough for them to start a 500 pt. force and have us sub in some of our stuff when necessary.
With that in mind, I would suggest we save the main campaign kickoff date for Nov? And since I'm getting married on November 12th, I wouldn't be very present until later in the month.
I'll probably wind up buying the Aces dry erase poster(unless someone else is really excited to spring for it), and we can keep it hung up in the back room when we move over to the new spot.
There are several copies of the Cassino book with a full list of the rules, I am happy to lend it out to anyone interested in browsing it for ideas, or familiarizing themselves with the rules.
The Bare Bones of the Tournament:
1. You Must select an INFANTRY company (you can take a mechanized company, but none of your wheeled vehicles will be allowed to make the trip, all infantry are dismounted at the beginning of the game and their transports are sent to the rear. If you're an American, at least you can dismount the .50 cals, but you'll be understrengthed and high on points so I don't recommend it.)
2. Once you pick a Company....you can't change your mind, so play test a few lists and make sure you like the one you choose.
3. ANY infantry company can come along, Russian, Italians, Romanians, etc. Early Mid or Late War.
The Rounds:
Round 1 - 500 pts. (played on a 4X4) - You may ONLY bring Combat OR Weapons Platoons. NO SUPPORT. Also, no tanks, and no wheeled vehicles. Any gun team that would normally require a transport is now MANPACKED
Round 2 - 700 pts. (played on a 6X4) - You may bring combat, weapons, and support platoons, but NO TANKS OR WHEELED VEHICLES
Round 3 - 900 pts. (Played on a 6X4) - You may bring combat, weapons, and support platoons including 1 platoon that includes either armored vehicles or tanks but with no more than 5 vehicles in it.
Players can play as many games as they want while we're in a given round.
You can earn up to 4 points per game
A. Killing at least one enemy platoon - 1
B. Winning the game - 1
C. Having your command team survive - 1
D. Playing a game - 1
So even if you get smacked....you still get one point.
Over time you will start to get more and more points which you can spend on skills. Cool things that your command team will be able to do to help you win. ranging from calling in artillery to getting a cool weapons upgrade at the beginning of the game.
There are three paths you can choose during each round, The Barracks/Mountain route, the Rapido River, or the Village (Gustav Line)
One of the things that would be important to do would be getting some felt or forrest pieces to add to our terrain collection. Also a lot of German lists in the Cassino book can use fortifications, which I'm not sure we have a lot of.
If you're interested in trying out the campaign, make a post and let us know what you're thinking (in terms of faction, or actual division/list) I will be bringing some books (including Cassino) to painting day Friday, so if anyone wants advice making a list for the game, I;m happy to help.
