While I don't mind sitting in my dorm room painting this juggernaut, I'd love to sit in my dorm room and get back into some gaming If anyone is interested in some Vassal, let me know -- I can generally carve out some time on the week-nights or weekends to get a game in. I'm trying to figure out what lists I can run with what I own, and what lists I want to run and how much stuff it would take to get me there... here are my "go-to" lists for now: Forward Kommander Sorscha (*6pts)* Beast-09 (11pts)* Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker (2pts)Great Bears of Gallowswood (5pts)Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)Winter Guard Infantry (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)* Winter Guard Infantry Officer & Standard (2pts)Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)Harlan Versh (2pts)Koldun Lord (2pts)Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich (2pts)Manhunter (2pts)I love eSorscha, her and pIrusk are (imo, though generally a widely held one) Khador's top casters right now. However, I think Irusk is a little trickier to play -- his deal is making single-wound infantry awesome, but there's lots of stuff floating around the meta that kills single-wound infantry dead; and time restrictions at tournaments scare me a bit with so many models to handle. This is pretty standard stuff -- iron fleshed winterguard, Sorscha's feat for cracking armor/colossals, some magic weapon solo's, snipers, etc. I like Beast 09 in theory, though I'm worried he's a bit too squishy. Sylys wants to be in every Khador list, but I think he has the most promise with Sorscha -- he gives her really good odds of safely getting Freezing Grip off, which has tons of potential in freezing a key unit. Vladimir Tzepesci, the Dark Champion (*5pts)* Kodiak (8pts)* War dog (1pts)Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)Kayazy Assassins (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)* Kayazy Assassin Underboss (2pts)Man-o-war Demolition Corps (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)Saxon Orrik (2pts)I've also gotten pretty heavily into eVlad -- this list is beefy, scary close combat stuff. I worry about scenarios (units aren't great at scoring points, and I only have one solo), and potential squishiness of Kayazy/Doom Reavers. I can pop feat early and use my fast infantry to get a mean alpha strike, or let them burn themselves out against the enemy front line... then pop feat on Demo Corps, who turn into mini-gods of war. Saxon Orrik is there to hand out the very important pathfinder. I wish I owned Drago to use him instead of the Kodiak, though I'm tempted to find some more points to upgrade the Kodiak to a Spriggan or Devastator. Not sure Demo Corps are the best points investment, but if anyone can run them well it's eVlad. Looking to get some fun stuff in the future... Iron Fangs for Irusk, Vlad3 and maybe some cavalry to run with him (man, I love Vlad), and one of the large base thingies... the Gun Carriage and Conquest both have steep price tags, but seem like they bring a lot of cool stuff to the table.

I'll play a vassal game with you sometime this week Brian. Just let me know what nights/times work for you (as long as it's not tonight ) and, if nothing else we can get one started. It'll be good for me to put together a warmachine list again!

So, for Valentine's Day Alayna got me Vlad3... how cool is that? Nothing says love like a cavalry warcaster. Anyways, this is a cool coincidence since Bob and I got a game in last week on Vassal and I tried out a Vlad3 list: Vlad (+5) -Spriggan (10) Fenris (5) Doom Reavers (6) Widowmakers (4) Kayazy Eliminators (3) Full Irong Fang Pikemen (8) -Black Dragon UA (2) Saxon Orrik (2) Bob tried out a Legion theme list, using Rhyas (ninja girl) as his warlock... don't know specific names, but he had two units of medium based Ogryn, a full unit of weaponmaster swordsmen, Typhon, a Seraph, and a Shepherd. This was an interesting game, as we both had fast melee infantry benefiting from Dash (which provides additional movement and no free strikes!). I didn't think through Bob's advance deploys, so let him get the jump on me (I went first, he went second)... he dismounted Fenris and killed a few Doom Reavers. While he got first blood, my retaliation was brutal -- I didn't remind Bob that the Doom Reavers were weapon master, so under Dash they walked out of melee and berserked through the medium based baddies. My Iron Fang Pikemen largely failed a long charge on Bob's beasts, but the few lucky stragglers who got into melee did big damage... pikemen are sweet! On Bob's turn, Typhon roasted most of the Pikemen, and his weaponmaster dudes cleaned out my surviving doom reavers... Bob killed Fenris four times, and I kept passing his tough roll which was funny. Vlad feated on my next turn, and killed a bunch of dudes (while also flinging my Spriggan into the Seraph/Typhon, doing big damage but failing to kill either)... he was safe at a hefty armor 21 after killing four guys or so. Bob killed most of the rest of my army, at this point; but he was looking worse for wear too. My two surviving pikemen finally poked the Seraph to death, and the Spriggan finished off Typhon... if I played the game safe at this point and hid Vlad, I probably would have won -- I needed to kill a few more infantry, or line up a Spriggan charge on Rhyas. But screw that, Vlad's on a horse. I charged him into a bunch of infantry, and misjudged threat ranges -- I couldn't kill as many guys as I had hoped, so Vlad was "only" at armor 21. Bob charges Vlad with everything he's got, with the infantry doing maybe five or six boxes worth of damage. Rhyas charged in, with weaponmaster, mat 8, and crit decapitation... two critical hits later, and Vlad was a red smear. A great game, lots of fun. Definitely trying to wrap my head around Vlad, his feat is a little underpowered and his spell list is strong but not as flashy as eVlad, per se. I think learning to maximize the use of Dash will be critical. Thanks Bob!

Yeah that was a fun game. I can barely remember what my own stuff does, let alone Khador stuff...I think I asked Brian "what does that do again?" about a hundred time! In the end, it was just luck to get two Crits on Vlad when needed, but that RYhas girl can pack a punch. I was beaten in that game, but pulled out the Hail Mary Caster Kill that makes WM games so much more interesting-to-the-end than other miniature games I tend to play. Good stuff! Now this eVlad guy (and Rhyas too, to an extent) is not my kind of caster...he's got so much offensive potential you want him up in the thick of things, which is not at all where I want my caster. I'm from the Sean-school of "my caster's going to sit 5 feet over there while all my stuff kills you" style of play. Still, he did a great job of mowing thru my infantry and I felt overwelmed with threats that I had to deal with. Solid list, even if Vlad hangs in the rear a bit more than going forward it can still work nicely.

Tom and I got a 35 point game in tonight... Cryx vs. Khador! I used another Vlad3 list: Vlad3 -Behemoth -War Dog Doom Reavers Widowmakers Full Iron Fang Pikemen -Regular UA Man-o-War Drakhun (no dismount) Harlan Versh Tom was running Gaspy 3 (this is off the top of my head): Gaspy3 -Vociferon -Nightmare -Bonejack Min Revenant Crew Max Mechanithralls -2 Brute Thralls Min Soul Hunter Cavalry Pistol Wraith Pistol Wraith We both played a little cagey, advancing hesitantly first turn. Moved Behemoth behind some sand bags, IFP and Doom Reavers were prepared to counter charge if Tom charged my widowmakers. I baited Tom up with a spare Doom Reaver, and my Drakhun got a counter charge that crippled a bonejack. Tom shuffled guys forward, trying to get in a good position to get charges on me... Nightmare faced off out of Behemoth's charge range, a mechanithrall block was opposite my IFP, revenant crew and soul hunters tried to jam up and protect valuable solos (pistol wraiths). The Lich Lord underestimated the speed of the Horselord! Vlad upkept my buffs (Hand of Fate on Widowmakers, Infernal Machine on Behemoth, casted Dash) and handed three focus to Behemoth. Then popped feat! Vlad shuffled around to get a good view of the ensuing carnage. The Drakhun walked away from the bonejack he had smashed, used his axe to cleave through a Soulhunter (Cryx cavalry), and then sidestepped in range for his horse to kick one of the pistol wraiths to death (Tom had declared shots but been out of range, meaning he lost incorporeal). The Drakhun then sprinted behind a building, out of LoS and in Tom's deployment zone... pretty good for turn 2! Widowmakers finished off the bonejack and killed three of the revenant crew. Doom Reavers tried to charge but largely came up short (though killed another soul hunter). The Iron Fang Pikemen popped their minifeat, which gives them a free advance/shieldwall at the end of their activation. I managed to kill off Tom's front ranks of mechanithralls and the last cavalry, and then the unit moved backwards into shieldwall to brace for a charge (two brave souls stayed beyond to jam up the mechanithrall block). I also ran two pikemen to form a bridge between Behemoth and Nightmare... this was my moment of genius! Behemoth couldn't charge out of the trenches to get to nightmare... so I walked him up behind a pikemen, punched him in the back of the head, sidestepped forward; punched the next guy in the back of the head, sidestepped forward; conveniently found myself in range of Nightmare! Bought three fist attacks, and left the helljack with only two cortex boxes remaining. Go Behemoth! Harlan Versh tried to kill the last pistol wraith, but left him alive with one box remaining. Tom did some thinking, and realized he had to kill Behemoth this turn. Gaspy moved up, killed one of my jamming IFP with a spell that let Tom control him and make a free attack before dying... made him kill his friend, freeing up the mechanithralls. Mechanithralls charged my IFP and two big dudes got onto Behemoth, to try and scrap him before it became too late. They knocked out four columns on Big B (preventing me from trampling over to kill Gaspy), and infantry killed two ifp and a doom reaver. The Pistol Wraith missed both shots on Harlan Versh! My turn, Harlan Versh charges and wrecks Nightmare (sweet!). War Dog kills pistol wraith, Vlad and IFP kill the stuff that can take free strikes on big B. Big B walks over to Gaspy, burns all of his focus but leaves him with one box left after a bad boosted damage roll. the rest of my stuff flubs, widowmakers too far to kill anything... Doom Reavers kill some scrubs (And the pirate leader, so they can't come back). Drakhun runs around the building. Running out of time, Tom needs to kill Vlad now or it's pretty clear that I can nab Gaspy. If I get something to hit him, he'll go down. Tom uses renevant to kill Doom Reavers, and mechthralls to clean up IFP. Two mechthralls fail to kill Big B to free Gaspy, so Gaspy works himself down to 5 focus killing my warjack. Even though he's cleaned up most of my infantry, I only need to score a single point of damage on Gaspy for the win... At this point, my computer ran out of battery and died I thought I had lost this report, but fortunately it was saved. The Drakhun was in Gaspy's rear arc and had charge range, which likely would have been the kill (Mat 8+2 for cav charge +2 for back arc; so need 3's to hit... pow 14 weaponmaster on the charge breaks Gaspy camping at arm 22). Failing that, Vlad probably could have sealed the deal himself. Still, our game was cut abruptly short. Thanks Tom for the great game! I think this Vlad list works better than the one I used against Bob... Behemoth gives me the potential to deal with Hordes/high armor lists, and a bit more ranged threat. The Drakhun is less flimsy than Fenris, and Countercharge is stupidly good. Not sure if I need the War Dog or not to keep Vlad covered. Finally, I think the regular IFP UA is a better choice... for those who don't know, Iron Fang Pikemen have two unit attachments: the Black Dragon UA gives them precision strike (choose the column to allocate damage) and a minifeat that gives them all +4 armor and steady. The regular UA gives them relentless charge (pathfinder on the charge) and a minifeat that gives them a free advance and autoshieldwall at the end of their activation. While I think generally the Black Dragons are a better deal, the regular UA allows me to not rely on Saxon Orrik for pathfinder (though he's still sorely missed; I fear that I'll need him in the pIrusk list I'm kicking around in my head) and the minifeat gives them a pretty serious burst of speed -- I can use it to hit and fade, buying myself another opportunity to charge; or to rush upfield under the effects of shield wall... with Dash, this is potent. The DR and Widowmakers are already advance deploy, so this gives me the opportunity to have my entire army sitting in control zones ready to score against brutal denial casters like Harby or eHaley, forcing them to pop their feats early on. Bob and I tried to get another game in tonight, but no luck... stupid internet connection. Hoping to get some more practice!

Updated to include the ending I thought the batrep was deleted when my computer died last night, but it was miraculously saved.

For future games, remember that sidesteps only activate on enemy models. At one point it was any, but I think Molik Karn forced them to errata it.
Vlad3 looks like a fun caster to play. Maybe I'll get to see him across the table some day.

Oh man, good to know! Thanks for the heads up, that definitely makes more sense now. I thought that plan was too good to be true. Hopefully we can grab a game sometime, especially if there's ever an Ordo event. I'm trying to wrap my head around Vlad3, and see what he does better than his other incarnations. pVlad has Signs and Portents and Blood of Kings, two absurdly good spells. eVlad buffs melee combat troops really well, with his feat and Transference. Vlad3's feat isn't too great, and his buffs aren't as obvious as eVlad or pVlad... I think leveraging Dash is really important, Infernal Machine lets you run warjacks a bit better than eVlad, and cycling Hand of Fate is good. Leveraging Vlad's own personal combat prowess is important, but you also don't want to get him bogged down and assassinated. Still, 13" basic threat range on a warcaster is pretty cool.

Thanks for the great game Brian! I definitely needed to be more aggressive with nightmare and gaspy. It wasn't so much that I forgot about drakhun, I was just really hoping to be able to get to vlad and not have to worry about him. Fail on my part!
I really like the revenants with this gaspy, but I'm not sure the soulhunters were a good choice. Could be more me though, that was my first attempt with them. I really bottled them up against that building and killed their speed advantage.
I don't think you need the war dog with this list. He killed the pistol wraith but really Harlan should have done that before the dog was even needed. Just a case of bad dice.
Hopefully we can get a rematch soon!

Gaspy3 vs. eSorscha Tom and I got a game in on Vassal last night. I took a break from the Vlads and brought out eSorscha, who will definitely be one of my staple warcasters. eSorscha -Beast 09 -Sylys Full Winterguard Infantry -UA Great Bears of Gallowswood Widowmakers Kayazy Eliminators Aiyanna and Holt Kovnik Joe Harlan VershI looove this list, mostly because I already own all the models I need to field it! Tom brought: Gaspy3 -Vociferon -Cankerworm Iron Lich Overseer -Desecrator (I can’t remember the name of the jack, I probably refer to it as different things below!) Warwitch Siren Bane Lord Tartarus Saxon Orrik Full Bane Thralls -UA Min Blackbane’s Ghost Raiders
Tom won the roll off, and let me go first! I deployed all my stuff largely centralized – Sorscha in the middle, Winterguard to the left, Beast 09 and Kayazy to the right, and merc support behind. The Widowmakers deployed further up to my left, in a forest with advance deploy. Tom’s deployment was similar – Banes on my left, Gaspy in the middle, the Desecrator and Ghost Raiders on my right. He had his solos floating around, and Saxon/Cankerworm advanced deployed up ahead of his main battle line. My turn, everything ran forward! Tom moved his stuff cagily, some Ghost Raiders lurking on the right in a forest about middle of the table (and jutting into the Kill Box). His Desecrator throws down a corrosion cloud to prevent my WG from getting to the Raiders. My turn 2, Aiyanna gives the Kayazy Eliminators magical weapons. They walk into the forest and manage to kill three of the raiders with side step, but are slowed down by the trees. Sorscha activates, camps all of her focus, and gives the Winterguard more movement. Kovnik Joe gives the WG boosted attacks. WG move up (further than Tom thought they could!) and spray into his front line – I killed about half of his Bane Thralls, the Warwitch Siren, and did a few points of damage to Tartarus and the Cankerworm. The rest of my solos shifted around, trying to cover Sorscha… the Great Bears split up so that they couldn’t all be nuked by one blast template, and sit behind the Winterguard waiting to countercharge. The Widowmakers hold position in the woods… they can’t really shoot at anything, so I ran one sap forward to try and no scope a Bane Thrall within his stealth range. He missed! Still, I’d tried to force Tom’s hand by jamming lots of threats down his throat, backing them up with a potent counter charge. Tom was in a bad spot… Defense 17 winterguard are a bear to handle. He gambled on getting a hex blast (which would dispel Iron Flesh), but missed with the attack. This messed up his plans; Gaspy had to recast Ashen Veil to help protect his banes and ran out of focus to do anything else (the undead overlord also popped his feat, giving him souls for any focus I spent in his control). The Raiders managed to kill one Kayazy and turn her into another ghost dude. The Cankerworm walked over an obstacle, and hit a Winterguard with a 5, 5, 6! … before rolling snake eyes, and failing to kill (Tom can’t escape his crap luck!). Still, Cankerworm’s affinity with Gaspy let him walk backwards, and avoid getting engaged. Tartarus charged in, cursed the Winterguard, and killed one to spawn a new bane. The Bane Thrall unit rolled up their sleeves and charged into the high def Winterguard, and did some serious work! They managed to destroy most of the unit. The Desecrator laid down another cloud to prevent my models from charging, and I was in a bad spot. I had to pick up the pace, as I didn’t want my computer to die! Sorscha moved backwards away from Gaspy’s feat, and went to cast Freezing Grip on the Bane Thralls to make them all stationary… to find myself an inch outside of their stealth range! Tom generously let me redo my movement, and Sorscha burned all of her focus to freeze the Bane Thralls. The Widowmakers and few surviving Winterguard killed the whole unit. I screwed up on my right flank, trying to kill the Raiders – the Kayazy Eliminator only managed to kill one, leaving black bane with one health left, and Harlan could only hit one from outside the forest – the other two were still alive. Beast 09 failed a charge on the Cankerworm because I got greedy, Aiyana and Holt moved back to screen Sorscha, and the Great Bears killed Tartarus and moved upfield. Tom was down to a few support solos, his two jacks, and Gaspy. My hope was that he wouldn’t kill both Beast and the Great Bears, as that would make it really difficult to deal with both of his heavies. Tom decides it’s time to go for the assassination, as I can out-grind him at this point. Saxon fails to kill a winterguard. He cleared LoS to Sorscha, and got his Desecrator and Vociferon (Gaspy’s arc node) to draw LoS). Gaspy does some spell slinging (including a cool spell that killed a Great Bear, but made him swing at Sorscha before dying!), but isn’t able to kill much. Assassination failed, Tom runs Gaspy back behind a forest to be out of Line of Sight, and uses Cankerworm to prevent me from getting close enough to hit him. My turn… I can kill all of Tom’s army, but my computer will run out of battery so that we can’t finish the game. That’s lame, so I decide to try the Hail Mary assassination! I’ll need to adopt a Joseph Stalin persona… going to have to kill my one guys to pull this off! Sorscha charges her own Winterguard (the one fighting Saxon) in the back, and brains him. After buying another attack to kill Saxon, Sorscha pops her feat – the charge had carried me far enough upfield to catch Gaspy – and casts Boundless Charge on Beast 09. A Great Bear walks over an obstacle to try and kill Cankerworm, who is blocking Beast’s charge… crazy hot damage dice (6, 6, 5!) and Sorscha’s feat (which doubles the damage of swings that exceed armor) means that he cleaves the Helljack asunder with one swing! My lone surviving Eliminator disengages from the Raiders and runs to outside of the forest, but close to Gaspy. This gives Beast a valid charge target, but will put himself close to Gaspy to make other attacks against him. Beast charges the poor Kayazy and flattens her with his armored fist. I have my other initial attack with his reach axe, Icebreaker… I only had two focus left, and decided to boost hit and boost damage… Gaspy was at full health, but I was swinging at dice +1 for damage. Beast 09 lets out a snarl and cleaves the Lichlord’s head from his shoulders, Sorscha’s feat helping Beast to one-shot Gaspy! Really really cool, if incredibly lucky assassination. This eSorscha list is very, very strong – super flexible, with tools for any job. No problem clearing tons of infantry, and can handle heavy armor quite well too. Sylys really helps mitigate Sorscha’s low focus stat, and makes it much easier to cast Freezing Grip. It’s a costly (4 Focus!) spell, but absurdly effective – it takes a unit of infantry out of the game for a whole turn. One combo I really want to try is abusing Harlan and Sorscha’s quad iron guns – on a successful hit, the shooter gets to make another attack up to four times. Since a stationary unit is autohit, Sorscha and Harlan can gun down entire units effortlessly with their pistols! I really liked Tom’s list as well – his whole army is either stealth or incorporeal, which makes it very resilient to shooting. Thanks for a great game Tom! It was a blast. If anyone is ever interested in a WM Vassal game, shoot me a PM!

Even over a computer my dice suck! LOL Thanks for a great game Bri! Your list works great, it's got counters to pretty much everything. I was re-working my list the day after and realized I put the full Bane Thrall unit on the field, but my list only actually can fit a min unit due to points. I was pulling up my list by memory and screwed up. Sorry about that, it would have made your win a LOT easier. I'm thinking this type of list would be better for a 50 point game instead of 35 so I could actually fit all the banes in.

No worries Tom! I never would have known haha, four more Bane Thralls won't break the bank. I agree that the list would struggle with only a min unit, though.
