WOW!! I haven't thought about this, but I just realized that it has been already 5 years since that wonderful day when I walk in a GW store and got the first WHFB set, 6th Edition Empire vs Orcs

Hmmm, Quite a while now. I think i started sometime around the age of 12. So since im now almost 26, i'd say its somewhere around 13-14 years!

Twelve years. When I was looking through my old warhammer league newsletters and stuff, looking for ideas for the summer campaign, I saw the newsletter from someone else's campaign from '97 at Cave Comics that had the battle report for my first ever warhammer game. My first army was undead (back before they differenciated between vampires and tomb kings). I had a liche general, mounted wights, lots of skeletons and zombies, a unit of mummies, unit of wraiths, unit of ghosts, skull catapult, and a riderless manticore (you could take large monsters without riders back then) I remember going 3 and 1 in that campaign - I beat orcs & goblins, brettonians, and empire, but lost to lizardmen.

I had been collecting the miniatures since before then, though. I collected and painted them, but didn't know anyone that actually played. I think the first set I ever bought was in '87 and it was a citadel (GW) one. "Undead War Machines", I think it was called. It came with a really cool looking skeletal chariot, the old school screaming skull catapult, and a bunch of other skeleton warriors.

Hmmm... I was about 16 when I started playing, so it's been about 13-14 years now. 40k was in 2nd edition, when my eldar could wipe out anything the came across with mere thought (literally!) and good use of overwatch.

I started playing twelve years ago, in 1997. Then due to multiple international moves, I stopped playing during 2000 and 2001, and back to the game in 2003 when I met Rod! (no... there is nothing romantic about this, believe me!).
Why do people stop playing? In my case: 1. international moves (back and forth) 2. my little Eric was born. 3. having no one to play with.

I started playing during 3rd edition of Fantasy when the box set was Britonians and Lizardmen. I had a buddy who played both of these and he showed me the rules and I saw an image of the old wood elves and decided that I wanted enter the forest and play robin hood. I'd say that Brian was probably about 3 at the time so 12-13 years. I've had years where life has allowed me to play more than other years.

Yeah it's tough when you don't have anyone around to play with. I know I would have been playing back in junior high when I got into painting the miniatures if I knew anyone that played. I wish there had been a group like Ordo around when I was a kid! A longtime friend of mine moved out to Arizona about six years back and there's no-one out there near him that plays, so all of his armies are all stored away now.

I was cleaning my room just this weekend and I found the roll call for my first event at a GW/hobby store (back then and there!). It was a Jousting Tournament and I won! I won 10 Dwarf warriors, in pewter, from Enigma, a Canadian miniature company that I don't think exists any longer. I still have those Dwarves. That was my first event! 12 years ago around this time of year!!
as I do now, I played Bretonnia back then. =) with Spanish rulebooks imported from Spain and metric-system rulers!
And YES, in case you were wondering, dice also have 6 faces over there.
