Hi All! Since not everyone has a copy of the rules, I wanted to put together a post that details how to build a team for League Play, as well as provide some resources online to use as research and reference. Please see the attachments on this post. Each coach that will be looking to field a team will need to select a faction listed on the BB.pdf, then build a team based on the costs associated with each player type on the grid. Keep in mind that you should have at least 11 players (the maximum you can field at one time during a game), and that you cannot have more than 16 players total. Each player type has a maximum allowable by type as indicated in the Quantity field. It a good idea to take more than the 11 player minimum to account for casualties during the game. Star players cannot be purchased at this time. Your starting budget is 1,000,000gp. Besides players and re-rolls, you can also buy Fan Factor, Assistant Coaches, Cheerleaders and Apothecaries. Fan Factor (10,000gp/point) - Help influence random events during the game, and the higher the better. As your team wins and loses, the fan factor may adjust on its own. Assistant Coaches (10,000gp/ea)- Each coach adds +1 to "Brilliant Coaching" event rolls. Cheerleaders (10,000gp/ea) - Each cheerleader adds +1 to "Cheering Fans" event rolls. Apothecary (50,000gp/ea) - Once per match, an apothecary can give you a second roll on the injury table, and you can pick the better option. If the best option rolled is Badly Hurt, the player is placed in the reserve box instead due to an influx of painkillers. The team you build here will be your team through the entire season. Any unspent GP is kept in your treasury, and can be used down the line in conjunction with your match winnings to buy additional re-rolls and players as needed. Re-rolls purchased after the initial team draft will cost double.
Normal/Double on the skill table represents the skill categories that may be added as players level up and get lucky on their leveling rolls. Double class skills may only be added if the coach rolls a double roll on 2D6 (ie, 4-4). For an explanation of the various skills, check out this Link.Besides the BB.pdf, I've also attached a 1-page roster sheet for keeping a paper copy of your team. The Team Value field is very important, as it provides an overall power level of your team, and weaker teams that play you during the season will get the option of purchasing additional inducements to help keeps games relatively balanced. The Team Value is easy to calculate at this stage, as it's just the gp you spent to build your initial team. Please feel free to post any questions here and I'll try to answer. Let's try to have our initial teams built by this weekend. We'll need to decide on season structure and length after we have our final list of coaches. I'll also add more info later relating to post-match actions and other needed topics. Thanks! edit- And yes, I'm in as Humans. edit 2 - added Assistants, Cheerleaders and Apothecary Attachments:BB-Team-Roster-v2.pdf (39.32 KB)

Thanks Wes. I have the Blood Bowl: My Dugout app on my phone. Would that would work for this too?

Yeah, it can be used for this initial set-up. The only difference is that the app does not show you the skill category upgrade options.

I'll be either Dark Elves or Nurgle. Want to read special rules before I decide.

Hey Shane, do you have an Orc Blood bowl army I can use? I remember seeing some over at your place covered in blood, and it really peaked my interest

If you want to work out your team before then, I have 6 linemen, 2 blitzers, 2 throwers and two black orc blockers.

I have some Orcs as well. Not assembled yet, but could probably get that done before game time.

How are we going to arrange this? The recommendation is that each team play 2 competition games against each other team. Are we going to say that each team can play each other team exactly twice so we all have the same number of games? If so, are we going to allow teams to play twice before they play other teams? Are we going to make some kind of schedule?
I think we should say you have to play at least 3 or 4 teams before playing the same team a second time to allow players to get games in and make changes to their team before they play someone again. I also think we should try to pit teams against each other in a building fashion, not putting a team with 0 games up against a team with 6 games already played. I understand they have rules built in to level the playing field a bit, but nothing is perfect.

I hear you, Kevin. Going either too strict or too loose with scheduling could cripple the league. Looking at the recommended league structure in Death Zone, we should play each opponent twice during the season in official league games. That would mean 12 total league games for each of us. They also recommend putting in an overall time limit to complete all games, and any matches not yet played when time expires results in losses for each team involved.
You get 3 league points for a competitive match win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. At the end of the season, you play a-4 team tournament, with 1st seed playing 4th; Winners play for the Championship, losers play for 3rd place, and prizes are doled out for 1st-3rd places. Then we advance to the offseason to prep for season 2.
They have an anticipated pacing of 2 league games a week on average, which I feel may be a little too aggressive for the group in its entirety. Maybe for this first time through we shoot for say 9 weeks to complete. This would be a 1.33 game/week average. We could always play quicker than the time limit and start the tournament ahead of schedule. If something major happens during the season (somebody who plays 3-4 games and bails on the rest), we'll figure out how to handle as a group.
The book also recommends allowing for Friendlies to be played during the season, without any cap to number of games against a specific opponent.
Friendlies are different from league games in the following ways: - No league points are earned for the match. - No MVP prize is awarded, which means no "guaranteed" SPP for the match. - D3 instead of D6 for match winnings.
I say we should allow friendlies during the season, primarily as a way to keep us occupied as the final games are worked out and played.
I can see the potential to use Friendlies as a way to bolster and improve a team for league play (or the playoffs), but this is still friggin' Blood Bowl, and one crap game can mangle a great team for the foreseeable future. Those veterans players who die in a friendly will not be there for the league game next week. Every game is a risk taken, and the rewards for friendlies are significantly different enough that I feel they probably wont be abused.

I think we should play everyone twice but only play someone the second time after you have played everyone once. If we get another player we can make two divisions and then have a superbowl at the end.
Our campaigns have peetered out in the past because people trail off, I have been guilty of that too. We shouldn't be too strict about things as that is a turn off but we need to keep things moving. Maybe something like if you can't get a game in in a two week period it is a forfeit.
