Welcome one and all.
I've been meaning to put up some tutorials on how I paint and such. I've decided to go the route of a little web series. I'm going to just record most of what I paint and get it edited and up for you guys.
I'll be honest I find it a little odd to talk to myself, but I suppose I'm not really talking to myself am I.
So without further ado here is my first episode. Feedback, what you like and don't like, what you'd like to see etc. is more than welcome, its needed!
Enjoy.

Nice video! First of all your models are always a treat to look at. The patience, skill and care put into them is always readily apparent.
A few questions??
What are the mix ratios of paint thinner to primer when using the airbrush? Does the airbrush also help when doing detail work? or does it only work for things big enough to warrant a broad cover of paint?
I know you're a big proponent of layers...is it better to start dark and shade light? or vice versa?
keep the videos coming!

For the airbrush I usually thin about 10 to 1 thinner to paint. Super thin. (I'll be doing a video on this it seems, content!).
The airbrush can really help with details but it takes some getting use to. I am still learning with the airbrush. Have a really good airbrush is what lets me do cool object source lighting. If I was really patient using tape and blue tack I could mask off areas to help use more airbrush for more seamless transitions.
I tried painting one model light and working down. I find this method is good for quick results but for me it doesn't really work. Starting light lets you put down less layers and keeps a model bright after a wash. A problem with painting with black and trying to paint quick is that you won't build up enough light areas to make a model pop. I'm always adding up layers and highlights so for me the end result is close to the same. Starting dark helps me hide things I miss and makes it easier to see detail as I build up.
Hope that helps.

Great Start! I can't wait to see more.
What brand/model is your airbrush and where can I get one?

The airbrush I'm using is an Iwata HP C plus. It was about 180, but you'll also need a hose and some cleaning stuff and a compressor. Iwata also makes a great airbrush called the eclipse. I got mine from HobbyTown. Talk to Craig. You'll also need a compressor. I bought a cheap one from Walmart. It's nice but super loud. I eventually got an iwata compressor, sooooooo much more quiet.

It's been a while. Nearly a year. Time flies. In any event I made a quick little video about magnetizing since that's what I've been doing lately getting things ready for storage.
Hope you enjoy.
