Watching games on youtube ive noticed most people seem to bring named warjacks (Beast 09 sees far too much play) in most cases I havent seen them turn entire battles but I was wondering if we were going to see them within the club's tournament(s) when/if they come around.
I personally dont want to use named Jacks because I would rather let my jacks do as they do, but I plan on using the Great Bears of Gallowswood because their stories are fun and I can get behind the idea of a unit of veterans.

Ive used a couple of mine and they arent overpowered or anything. The game system is built around the premise that nothing is banned everything is meant to be strong... so dont see us bucking that trend and banning anything.

Mhm, the named 'jacks are typically better than their vanilla counter parts but you definitely pay for the buffs. I can really only speak for Khador, but I like the ranged 'jacks -- firstly, with a low focus caster or if you're running multiple 'jacks it makes sense to go for a quality over quantity approach. Sure, Beast 09 is 4 points more than a vanilla Juggernaut jack but every focus I invest in Beast will make him all the better. If I'm running too many vanilla jacks, I may not have the focus to buff them up and make them good. I've also found named jacks to have really unique roles in the army compared to others. In Khador, Beast and Torch are both really multi-purpose close combat jacks (good against infantry or casters or heavies) and the Behemoth is an awesome shooting platform. I dunno, I like them -- I think they add more diversity to the game. The fluff idea of having your "own" unnamed jack isn't as appealing to me as it is in 40k either, since you have to have a named warcaster and a lot of the fluff is spelled out for you already. Great Bears are ace though I really had fun using them the other day, super potent and have awesome damage output but be careful -- they aren't too tough.

What I enjoy most about the Great Bears is the three of them together are what every one of Dante's characters end up as in any RPG we play. And they seem way too good and fun to not use.

I love the Cankerworm and Nightmare models, though I really have no idea how well they perform. It seems the named jacks, for Cryx at least, are all designed to be used with a particular warcaster.

I don't see them as the broken equivalent to special characters in GW games.
Also, I have already spent $60 on Mulg the Ancient. I mean c'mon, he basically swings a tree! =D

Yea, there is certainly nothing wrong with Character Jacks/Beasts as far as ive seen/read. However I also don't feel that they are must haves to be competitive. So far my characterless builds have been holding their own against opposing forces with characters. I know down the line I might pick up 1 certain jack for Cygnar, but I dont feel in any great rush as im very satisfied with my generic jacks so far.
