I figured I would make a generic thread for my army (sorta like what we had in the Fantasy board) so that I can track list changes, games, and ideas I have about my list. Since we seem to have a lot of aspiring Khador players too, I thought it’d be cool to get some dialogue going. After a bunch of 15 point games to get acquainted with the rules, I'm planning on making the jump to 25 points on Friday.
I was debating warcaster for a while -- most likely, the one I choose now will be the one I continue to use/hone my game with for a while (unless I turn out not to enjoy it, and I'll switch out for a new one). I own pSorscha, pVlad, and Strakhov; I don't really like Sorscha that much but I'm really enjoying pVlad/Strakhov. In the end, I decided to go with Strakhov. He actually has better base stats than Vlad does (which really surprised me), and I liked that his feat was more generic -- it boosted my whole army as opposed to only 'jacks. If I start having a hard time, I can always look into going back to Vlad. Both casters have a very similar style of play, which involves lots of sneakiness and unpredictable movement shenanigans. I’m not sold either way yet though, so if anyone has thoughts on my warcaster choice I’d be glad to hear it (especially since it’s easy to substitute Vlad in these lists by dropping the War Dog).
So, at 25 points I came up with two list ideas – one that runs ‘jack heavy, and another that includes more infantry options (and is on the whole more well-rounded).
List A
Strakhov (-6)
- War Dog (1)
Juggernaut (7)
Juggernaut (7)
Decimator (9)
Great Bears (5)
Mechaniks (2)
Total: 25
List B
Strakhov (-6)
- War Dog (1)
Torch (10)
Destroyer (9)
Great Bears (5)
Widowmakers (4)
Manhunter (2)
Total: 25
The first list is pretty dependent on the ‘jacks – my game plan is that three iron monsters is going to be tough for most foes to handle, so they can beat face. Basically, I’ll just advance them up the field and plow them into my foe – Strakhov’s feat goes to getting tricky/fancy charges, and even an assassination if I need one. Mechaniks keep the jacks in working order, while the Great Bears probably hide behind Occulation and beat more face in combat. I’m not sure about the Decimator – I really want to like the ripsaw in combat, but I have plenty of jack-slaying potential. The long ranged firepower is awesome, but really needy of focus… and Strakhov won’t have much focus to spend, after upkeeping his spells and keeping the Juggernauts moving. I could swap it out for a Destroyer, which is of more use against infantry (a weakness in this list) and stealthed targets. Longer ranged, and not nearly as focus hungry.
List two goes for a more combined arms approach – I get Strakhov’s character ‘jack in here, to lay the hurt down on other high priority targets while the Destroyer provides ranged or combat support depending on what I need. Same plan with the Great Bears, and I can use the Widowmakers to cover a flank and be all around annoying with their Sniper ability. The Manhunter can go for an assassination, turn a combat in my favor, or ward off unfriendly enemy solos.
Any thoughts? Opinions? I know I write a lot, sorry for my jumbled ramblings
