Hmmm, man o war was an old gdub ship based combat. Is it return? One would assume.

It's up on the GW site for advance order now - it's a standalone game called Dreadfleet!

I'd love to see it in action - two things put me firmly on the fence:
1. The allied fleets - warhammer has conditioned me to only root for one army at a time. Having these sides mixed of elves, dwarfs, humans Vs. vampires, chaos dwarfs, khemri doesn't sit right with me.
2. Rules-wise I had a big red flag moment when I read the game designer say his grandmother could play it. I'm all for playability over complexity, but if it's too dumbed down, I'll pass.
Still, there's no doubt the models are absolutely fantastic, and that game mat is gorgeous.

Most of the models really do look great. I'm glad for the inclusion of the vampire counts and khemri ships, as they were the only two races not playable in Man o War. Also glad for the fully developed scenery with islands and stuff, rather than the flat cardboard punch out islands you had in the Man O War set. The one thing I would want to know before I bought dreadfleet is whether or not the scales were the same as with Man o War, as I had spent a couple hundred dollars acquiring a bunch o stuff on ebay and I would probably only want to pick up the game if I could expand it by adding the man o war ships into it. One thing I will say though is I'm getting really sick of these GW limited release things. There are probably more edition boxed sets sitting on store shelves collecting dust than anything else just because they do a new edition of each game every two years, why is it when they do something really outside the box and cool like Space Hulk or Dreadfleet they only make so many of them. I can see doing that with a single mini for conventions or magazine subsciption offers where it's only a single sculpt, but why even bother with all the work that goes into making a set like that if you're only going to produce a limited amount. All they're doing is making money for people who can buy a bunch of them and jack up the price on ebay and punishing people who might really like the game just because they may happen to not have the funds on hand to purchase it the first week it comes out. Arrrghh thinking about GW policies makes me angry

Take a look at the blog/news section of the GW site, there's a pic of a ship next to an Empire mini - these are a much larger scale than Man O' War
