Okay here's the last one. Finally, here is Castle Phagius. This is a big Wall of Text, so I'm going to make the intro short and let Castle Phagius speak for itself.
CASTLE PHAGIUS[/u]
Amid the highest peaks of the mountains overlooking the Forsaken Vale sits Castle Phagius. The fortress straddles the mountain lake that forms the rivers that flow down into the valley. It was from this formidable keep that the chaos lord Phagius plotted the destruction of the thriving valley below, and the lands beyond, experimenting with foul pestilences that would make Father Nurgle proud. When he perfected his odious pox, he unleashed it into the rivers, defiling the land with his unholy plague, slaying the riverside city of Pont-a-Condemne and devastating the entire valley. While too late to save the valley from ruin, the forces of good managed to mobilize in time to stop the evil from progressing beyond it, and assaulted Phagius' army in the mountains around his retreat. As his armies were beaten back, Phagius made his last stand within the walls of his keep and was eventually slain in the final conflict that saw the forces of good victorious.
Since the fall of Phagius, his castle has continued to sit ominously atop the mountains, silently brooding over the destruction it had wrought.
Campaign Rules[/u]
The Acolytes of Phagius
After the defeat and death of Phagius, his surviving minions returned to his former keep to await the return of their leader and to defend his castle in his absence. In secret they continued to practice his work and make use of his foul magics that were his legacy, however over the many generations since the fall of Phagius, they have devolved through inbreeding and the twisting caress of chaos, and the true power that Phagius wielded has long been lost to them. Now their continued presence is an obstacle to those who would dare to unlock the secrets of Castle Phagius and release his great plagues unto the vale once more.
Any banner that moves onto Castle Phagius must win a battle against the Acolytes of Phagius before they can take control of the territory. If two enemy banners simultaneously converge on Castle Phagius, then they must roll off as they would if more than two enemy banners ever attempted to move to a single territory. The banner whose player rolled the highest would fight a battle at Castle Phagius with the Acolytes of Phagius, while the others would act as if they were given Hold actions.
Fighting the Acolytes of Phagius: In battle the Acolytes will be played by either the Campaign Organizer or a volunteer player. They deploy within the Castle and its grounds as the defending army does in the scenario below, but they do not receive the benefit of Fortification.
The Acolytes of Phagius are made from a custom 2250 pt army list consisting of elements from the Warriors of Chaos, Daemons of Chaos, and Beasts of Chaos books, as well as a few completely original unit types.
Formidable Keep: Any banner occupying Castle Phagius is automatically considered to be Fortified. Attempts to Fortify the territory further have no effect.
Unlocking the Secrets of Castle Phagius
Once the Acolytes of Phagius have been defeated, a banner that occupies Castle Phagius may attempt to unlock the dark secrets of the castle. To do so, the banner must be given a Hold action. Then the player rolls a D6. On a ‘6’ the player has unlocked the secrets of Castle Phagius and can choose to either unleash Phagius’ devastating plague or destroy the castle once and for all and finally put an end to Phagius’ vile legacy. When making the D6 roll, a player may add +1 for each turn he has previously attempted to unlock the castle’s secrets. A roll of ‘1’ always fails, however.
Destroying Castle Phagius: A player who has unlocked the secrets of Castle Phagius may give orders to an occupying banner to destroy the castle. The unit is given a Hold action and the player notes in the Notes/Special Quests line that he is destroying the castle. The territory is for the rest of the campaign considered a normal mountain territory with no special rules, and the player destroying the castle receives 2 Victory Points toward winning the campaign.
Countdown to Desolation
A player who has unlocked the secrets of Castle Phagius and wishes to unleash his devestating plague upon the valley once more may do so by giving the occupying banner a Hold action and the player notes in the Notes/Special Quests line that he is beginning the countdown to desolation. The player receives a single victory point and then rolls 2d3+1. The result is the number of turns before the Phagius Effect occurs.
During the countdown, the occupying army must remain and continue to take Hold actions. If for any reason the occupying banner that initiated the countdown moves off of Castle Phagius, then the countdown is averted and must be started over again.
Note that if the final turn of the campaign has been announced, and the number of turns in the countdown is greater than the number of turns left in the campaign, then the Phagius effect will occur at the end of the last game turn.
Averting the Catastrophe
During the countdown, other armies may attempt to reach Castle Phagius and defeat the army attempting to unleash the plague. While the countdown is underway, any banner may support another banner attempting to assault Castle Phagius, regardless of army type, so long as the player or players supporting the assaulting banner participate in the battle with 200 points worth of their army (core units only).
Any player participating in the assault that successfully drives the enemy from Castle Phagius and averts the catastrophe receives a Victory Point towards winning the campaign.
The Phagius Effect
The Phagius Effect occurs at the end of the final turn of the countdown, if the banner that initiated it is still occupying Castle Phagius. The following thirty two territories are permanently Razed and the player that initiated the devestation receives 2 more Victory Points toward winning the campaign.
99, 100, 107, 108, 76, 44, 45, 62, 46, 92, 77, 64, 93, 78, 31, 65, 32, 33, 25, 24, 15, 16, 36, 37, 38, 29, 5, 2, 3, 4, 6, 20
Note that bridges Razed by the Phagius effect will continue to function as river crossings, unless Razed in the traditional manner.
Battles at Castle Phagius
Battlefield Set-Up:
There is specific terrain for battles at Castle Phagius, consisting of the castle itself and the mountain river it straddles.
The defender deploys within the castle and immediately in front of the walls.
