The seven bell towers of Menndo that stand amid the ruins are said to have certain magical properties, and those one who tolls a bell will have his fortunes increased in some way. But each of these bells is protected by a guardian, who will not surrender his blessing so easily. The guardians are actually the manifestation of the bells themselves, and only if challenged and defeated, will they bestow their gift to the bell toller. It is said that in previous times, these challenges took the form of riddles or quests. Now however, after such time among the city of the dead, the challenge has taken on a darker, more violent nature, and the guardians themselves have become more monstrous in form.
Last night on Vassal, I had announced the next skirmish game, which will be called Deadly Towers. During my game against Arleen, we kept thinking how awesome the the terrain would be for an Ordo skirmish game. It was actually originally built for a Mordheim scenario I ran at a convention back in March of 2001, and is much better suited for skirmish than a game of WFB, which is pretty much restricted to fighting in the streets and can't make use of all the cool multi-level ruins. So I decided to have the next campaign skirmish game be in the ruined city of Pont-a-Condemne. And yes, for whoever is occupying it at the time, there will be some advantage for being the home team.
In this skirmish game, between five and ten players will be competing with one another in attempting to climb the towers, challenge and defeat the guardians, and toll the bells.
In campaign terms, tolling a bell grants one of seven random one-use-only gifts to be used at any time. Such examples could include:
-Add 200 pts to a banner for one fight
-Succeed at all campaign map die rolls (except finding the treasure well itself) for one turn
-Move a banner an extra space one turn.
-Force an enemy banner to take a hold action. T
This skirmish game will be on a much smaller scale than any of the others I’ve done previously. There will only be between 5 and 10 players - right now I'm thinking five or six - so signing up for it would be first come first serve. Because of the really nice terrain, I think this one would be good to run on the table in the front of the store. There are no monsters running around for me to run, so I’ll actually get to be a player in this one.
It will be taking place most likely on a Friday in July at Hobbytown, but I won’t announce until after that weeks turn orders have come in, so I can see how light or heavy it is going to be for battles. It’s only going to take a 4x4 table, but I don’t want to use any tables if there are five or six battles that need to be resolved.
More details, including scenario based rules, and warband size and guidelines, will be posted in the next couple weeks, so watch the website and boards.
