New book probably being released on Feb 2nd! Very exciting. I'm really looking forward to this. Here are some pictures: savepic.org/2596209.jpgsavepic.org/2614440.jpgsavepic.org/2609324.jpgNew chariots look sweet. From what I've heard there will be some new monster units. Seems the emphasis will be on monsters with the new units and dragon ogres getting new models along with chariots. And here is a possible list: from Librarium-Online JvK Core Chaos Warriors Marauders Marauder Horsemen Chaos Hounds Forsaken* Special Chaos Chariot Gorebeast Chariot Forsaken* Hellstriders War Alter Chaos Ogres Chaos Trolls Dragon Ogres Chaos Knights Chosen Rare Slaughterbeast Mutilath Vortex Beast Skullcrushers Chaos Giant Chaos Spawn Chimera Hellcannon Shaggoth** * I have heard talk that forsaken are getting moved to Core but since I have not been able to verify this yet. ** Rumours persist that the Shaggoth is getting a new model and will be released alongside a new Chaos Dragon in a later wave.

I'm so disgusted with GW. So many books that need attention, and they redo WoC...it's only what, 3, 4 years old? The models are far more recent and "up to date" than Wood Elves, Bretts, Elves? They're one of the most competitive books available....so senseless! Who wants to play some Warmachine!

WoC is now 5 years old. Came out in 2008. While you are right Bob that there are some books that really need some updating like Wood Elves and Brets (High Elves got a plastic update not long ago and are expecting to get a book this year, and DE are pretty strong these days). Though I do think Brets are actually much better than most people give them credit for.
The current WoC book does need some updating though. Marauders are grossly underpriced and it's not a very balanced list.
While I share some of your disgust with GW it doesn't effect me much. I like to focus on the positive side of things so don't think of it much, plus as a WoC player this is a fairly exciting release. I also can't stay angry with a company that produces a game I really like.
I hope at least a few people are not abandoning WHFB for warmachine! Despite GW's focus only on profit policy these days personally I enjoy WHFB much more than any other game.

The models aren't terrible... I like Throgg a lot, and the Dragon Ogres; other stuff doesn't wow me. Not really a fault of WoC, I'm just super underwhelmed with the new art direction Fantasy models have taken. Not a fan, though I do want to see the Chaos Dragon and Shaggoth models.
I like Fantasy as a fun game, but don't want to spend money on something I hardly play *shrug* we'll see how the rules are.

I like the new direction but I think that all comes down to personal taste. I hope this year we can get more fantasy games in. Let me know when you're free and I'll try to be around for fantasy. I don't play as much as I'd like to yet I have at least 15,000pts..

If they fix the broken armies to bring them back in line I'm okay with that. Now WOC aren't broken but are a very strong choice.
I do agree that it would be nice to see wood elves, dwarfs, and brets get some love. I see what could be a great place to start for a Nurgle lord biker!

Yeah this choice surprised me too, the warriors also have a very good model range, so this release i can't really see what they are releasing that's going to be the hot item. Looks like the repackage of dragon ogres in one box over blisters, a chariot and big surprise a big beastly that probably wont get a model for 6 months.
Very underwhelming....warmachine?

Consider though that WoC I believe are currently the 5th oldest book. Only the Elven armies, dwarfs and Brets are older. They don't NEED an update but they could use them. Marauders are quite broken right now and their pts cost needs to go up as I'm sure it will. HE will probably get an update this year, along with DE maybe, so I think it's really only dwarfs, WE and Brets that GW is ignoring which is tragic but they are a coperation so their goal is to make money and they are going to update armies that will sell.
Dante I've seen a picture of the new big beasty so it should be coming out along with the book.
I find all this talk of abandoning WHFB for warmachine very discouraging as a die hard fantasy fan!

alaric, why the hell would they spend resources working on a book and model range that is playable, competitive, looks nice, and is already popular?
why would they not work on wood elves or bretts, get them updated, make them competitive, get more people involved in the hobby?
it's senseless. They're fixing what isn't broken and ignoring the broken things.

I mean, I Remember Wood Elves and Brets being really old and outdated when I firet started Fantasy, which was right with the release of the previous WoC book. Those armies still aren't updated as Warriors get another go? I get Bob's frustration... part of the problem with Fantasy is that the newest edition killed all interest in the game, and there's no real scene/support for it anymore. And you can't knock Warmachine until you've tried it

Idk Bob unfortunetly I don't get to make that call (it would be nice if I did!) I understand your frustration, but I like the game too much to let that get in the way. And armies are only as broken or as bad as you play them. If you're playing in a non competative club environment you can make lists less competative. Of course that doesn't apply in tournaments.
I see you guys have a lot of frustration towards GW. I find with people who have been in the hobby longer this is the case. I've only been playing since 7th so I wasn't around for the "good old days" of 5th or earlier editions. For me I just really like the whole backround of the warhammer world and the rules so I don't let GWs policies get in the way. In general I think it's best to just have fun, play things you want to play them and not let a big coperation ruin your day.
Brian I've had some experience with warmachine and I'm not a fan. I like big armies and lots of units, not skirmishes like warmachine, which is one reason why I really enjoy WHFB.
Unfortunetly for me it seems there is very little ordo intrest in fantasy as this thread is showing. Hopefully there are some fantasy players in the area. At least we have a few Hail Caesar fans.

The club goes through its phases. We go to the flavor of the month pretty hard with only a very consistent FoW following here. While many of us aren't currently fans of fantasy, i would place the blame much more on the fact that we go through our scenes. Someone showed up with a warmahordes battle box one day about 1 and a half years ago, roughly a half year after 8th ed. released and many people flocked to it because it was something new, and many were discouraged at the painfully obvious GW scheme to buy more models, and it turned into who's lvl 4 can cast a vortex spell first. We all dropped warmahordes just as fast when 6th ed. came out. All i'm saying is don't be too judgmental of our club's interest in fantasy. I myself haven't played a fantasy game in nearly two years, that doesn't mean that i aren't looking at with pride at my 3000 points of blue balled ogres or my grey plastic dark elf army. And I can confidently say there are at least a dozen and half members here who have large or multiple large fantasy armies. Just wait for the flavor of the month to change. Some day we will probably be back into the fantasy rut. In the mean time try some of the other hobbies we enjoy You think i enjoy having a playing 40k, fantasy, warmahordes, blood bowl, and necromunda? Hell yes i do maybe i have spent a little too much time painting and a little too much money but hey, it keeps me hip and up to date And i think it is true to anyone who has cared about his or her war gaming, GW is tolerated at the best of times

Dante's spot on, we're a pretty fickle bunch -- 40k and Flames are the most consistent games, but 40k usually gets a bit of burnout after we've been playing it for too long. The tides turn, and we wind up pushing a different game for a little while... for instance, I'm a little burnt on 40k now and looking to paint up all my Warmahordes stuff this spring.
For whatever it's worth, the best wargame "revivals" come from league play -- escalation or otherwise. Last year Warmachine had a nice three month revival when we started a small escalation league, and Flames is so successful because the community at the store is really really good at having consistent league events running. Maybe a Fantasy escalation campaign/league to build interest is a good place to start, and then you could have it culminate in a full day tournament at the store to tie things together.

That's encouraging to here Dante. I have started 40k because it seems popular now, and I'm starting Hail Caesar.
Good idea Brian. I'm hoping Grady's campaign idea will help revive fantasy a bit.
