I know a lot of club members have extras, particularly whitestar. And I liked Brian's suggestion of checking out an army by borrowing.
The two factions I was considering trying out are Circle of Orobos, and Legion of Everblight ( I never play the bad guys)
Does anyone have these books? for me to borrow for a week? or have an army I can test out in April when I get back from China? My birthday is coming and I've got a gift certificate to spend.....I'm debating between a 40k purchase and a Warmachine purchase.

Long term, Warmachine really isn't cheaper than 40k... but it's much much easier to get a playable army off the ground for little comparative cost ($150 can easily get you a full 35 point army, our standard at the club), which I think is a huge plus. Some of us have bigger collections (or are building them), but others have bought the bare necessities and have their army on hand for when they want to play.
Both Circle and Legion are pretty much bad guys... Legion are creepy mutated dragonspawn, but Circle is full of heart-eating cannabilistic druid eco-terrorists who hate civilization. I can see you getting behind Legion, they're a cool faction. Split the Starter box with someone for the Legion stuff, grab some support solos and a few cool Warbeasts; another warlock or two, and boom! You have a fully functional Legion army. Bob could be a big help with that.
I only have Khador (and my Dad's few Menoth models) on hand, but my collection is fair sized -- I wouldn't mind bringing it to the shop one day for people to use parts of it for test games. And I'd love to get some test games in with you Tom!

They're pretty much all bad guys. I would split the box with you if you want. I'm not looking for another faction, but it would be nice to have a 2nd small hordes force.
If you're new to the game, I think Legion is easier to master than Circle. But it depends more on which one you like the look and feel of.

What I had meant was that I like the idea of playing bad guys because I usually don't?! So I like that both are pyschos.... I'd love to try a few games with both, so Bob, I'll take you up on your offer once I get back from China. I leave next Friday, and get back April 2nd, so the weekend of the April 6 and 7th...so hopefully I'll see you then. And warpriest, I'll see what I can buy for my Birthday (which is mid April) but I think I might be convinced to split a box. Thanks guys!

You can make a case for all of them being bad guys in some way.
In order of decreasing bad guyness : Cryx/ Legion Skorne Circle Menoth Khador Trolls Retribution Cygnar
Approximately...
Mercs and Minions can fall almost anywhere on that list.

I no longer own any Legion, unfortunately. I sold them to a friend at Templecon. I do, however, still have my Circle and I also have Trolls, Cygnar, Mercenaries, and the starter box for Warmachine (Khador and Menoth). I'm always willing to let people borrow my stuff if you want to try something out! I also have the books if you still want to borrow those.

Matt, I'd love to take a look at some of the books if you'll be around. and Bob, I totally forgot to ask you about the Legion stuff this Sunday. I am going to go halfsies with Stephen on some Circle and Legion stuff, so I'd love to start learning the army...particularly after the 40k tournament....

He Bob, I borrowed your books from the back, so if you show up this weekend to find them gone, I'm the culprit. Game of thrones was awesome, its the kind of game I think you'd love, especially if Brian is playing, because he's a huge weasel. I'm looking into cheap versions of Hordes battleboxes online and would split it with Stephen. And I'm still debating which secondary pieces I should snag for Legion to put me up to 25 pts.
