One of the best thing about 40k is the story and history. Is there any interest in running a mini narrative campaign again? While i dont spend alot of time playing. I tend to have over collected a large amount of terrain that can probably make for a thematic narrative campaign that we can setup one day in the shop for fun. Basically I have 2 realm of battle boards, the FW crashed thunderhawk board, the imperial strong point board, a 4x4 ft zone mortalis set, cities of death buildings, etc.
Kinda wondering if we want to get together and write a narrative campaign, we can create a central objective located in the zone mortalis board. Some one can create some type of narative sorta like where a recently discovered testing facility for the dark mechanis was discovered by the imperium on an old abandoned planet upon activating the power generator on the Imperial strongpoint tile a massive psychic resonance went out across the sector. The imperial force located on the imperial strongpoint was told to wait and hold on the objective until a malleus inqusitor arrives. At the same time every force sensative xenos army felt the resonance in the sector are heading to the location to investigate the source. And any non force sensative armies can be written in the story as they intercepted the message (aka tau/necrons) or are leftover remenants of the abandoned stripped world (orks/nids). We can run it one day in the shop.
we can have at least three or four 4x6 boards with 6 or 8 players at 1500 to 2000 points
The strongpoint board with 1 entrance into the mortalis zone. 1 imperial force vs any army even imperial.
The crashed thunderhawk board w 1 imperial army(aka this was the malleus inquisitor and his retinue arriving to investigate the source and thier ship was shot down) vs any other army.
A city of death board w another entrance into the mortalis board in the center. With another two armies fighting for control.
If 2 more people want to play we can create another board.
We can create unique objectives such as emplaced weapons on the board that can be controlled by players, or have objectives be strategic areas needed to be secured such as a landing pad.
Which ever players win thier board (and contest or control the objective entrance) can enter into the zone mortalis final fight board.
The 4x4 zone mortalis complex board will be played differently. Same army 500 to 1000 points. We can thematically say the rest of the force is securing the exit and/or to big to enter.
we can technically have 3-4 players on this game each starting on thier own zone entrance. No vehicles, except walkers(non superheavies) and infantry (maybe bikes, skimmers but dangerous terrain tests?).
First player to grab the objective and leave the board on thier zone edge wins? We can create a unique peice of wargear on an index card as the prize that can be used in that players army in the next narrative game we play. However this unique wargear can always be lost and stolen in every narrative campaign we play.
What do you guys think? A one day event in the summer that we can continue writing stories and string along more connected campaigns to it if needed. And the good thing about a campaign setup this way we dont really need to have specific people or specific armies confirmed who ever shows up can play and be written into the story.
PS, Only issue is the boards are all still grey plastic (meaning i am going to have to quickly spray them up) and there are a few details to work out and someone should write a narrative. But mostly just gauging interest in the idea.
