I'm going to get it, but Craig hasn't gotten it in yet. Last week their website said it would be available at retailers this week, if I'm not mistaken.

Well picked up the core set and Played a game against Jen. Will say that the game is diffrent from x wing with the movment tool it is a little hard to control the ships and now were you will be. We both had really bad dice rolls but in the end Jen won on turn six when her victory class took out my Nebulan B. Jen did a really good job with her orders for the victory with them coming up at the right time. Overall was a good first try

How did you like the game thought. Is it a better design then xwing; like is it an improvement to the model ship warfare?
I have been reluctant to buy it because I had the feeling it wasn't going to be better then Xwing since the best part of xwing is the dogfighting aspect and the heavy influence of movement in the game.

Sam brings up a good point, X-wing is very dynamic game because of the maneuverability of the ships and almost every turn is as exciting as the others, even when playing epic, you still have that sensation; How does Armada compares on that aspect? I would think that it should be different since it is capital ships battles, but as a game, at least for me the "cinematic" feeling counts a lot

It definitely has improved upon some things. The shield dials on the sides of the bases are a really nice feature. I like that you don't have a million ship cards to choose from, since they give you two variants of the ship, not a card for each pilot. They did away with pilot skill, and players alternate activating ships in the order of their choosing.
It seems that Armada is more about careful planning, like chess, than X-Wing, since you have to place your command dials down and they stack up, revealing one each turn. This makes for larger, less maneuverable ships having to plan ahead for what they expect the battle to bring. There is a bit of synergy to the game, not through special pilot abilities, but through core mechanics. Certain ships are better at coordinating an attack with fighters than others.
I don't want to say it is better or worse than X-Wing, but it definitely is different. The rules are pretty brief, but the mechanics of the game do seem more complex than X-wing. At the moment, just the core set is available, so there aren't really a whole lot of options out there for customizing your fleet, but wave one is "on the boat." Like X-Wing, the upgrades are different in the core set and the expansion sets of the ships from the core set, so there should be quite a shift in play once they arrive.
I would love to do a demo for people next Saturday.
EDIT: The objectives also add something to the game, altering the environment, scoring, or focus of the game.

Gorgeous models, the game definitely has a very enjoyable visual and for me just that is enough to keep me interested, besides the fact the is Star Wars of course, I think is time to start saving lunch money and recycle bottles and cans to buy the game (eventually)
