*For specifics of the goings on between rounds, see the previous post (Airlandings, strategic movements, etc.)
*Any games starting tomorrow, July 23rd and before August 5th count for turn #2
It was a healthy Turn 1, and a good beginning to the campaign. 9 games fought. Many participating generals. Kevin needs more help! German players! get in for some games! I am barely around for the next two weeks, so you won't have me to fight it out with, but there are many brave allied generals to choose from.
The Situation:
The South: Despite some early gains, the allies remain stalled near their jumping off points. The See-saw battle for Eindhoven ended in crucial victory for the Germans. Preventing much movement of allied reinforcements, or supplies up the roads. The sole 6 pts the allies have is a bridge not in their main route of advance. Many German Firestorm troops stand between them and their coveted bridges. Large numbers of reinforcements have arrived to bolster allied attacks.
The Road to Nijmagen: Heroic fighting by the 101st has prevented several regiments being destroyed, and newly landed glider troops west of Nijmagen have seized roads connecting that city and Eindhoven. The 101st remains out of supply due to the fall of Eindhoven to troops from Kampfgruppe Spindler and they currently do not have enough supplies for sustained operations. It is hoped that XXX Corps will reach them soon.
The 82nd Airborne has been stalled near their landing zones, but have managed to seize several approaches into the city of Nijmagen, exploiting the benefits of a recent supply drop by allied planes. The Germans tried to intercept, but failed. Newly arrived German reinforcements threaten their hold on the Grosebeck heights. And some German units have moved to the roads between them and the 101st.
Arnhem Area: Despite no major fighting during the initial landings, the British have managed to seize some of the territory leading to Arnhem. Taking the Elst Road, and the town of Osterbeck, as well as the forrest of Wolfheeze. German units in the area are aware of their presence however, and have moved security forces, elements of the II Panzer Corps, and some elite Panzer Grenadiers to block their way. Limited supplies have hindered their movements until now.
It remains to be seen if the final allied airdrops of troops can occur, or if the dropzones will be overrun before the turn comes to a close. Allied plans were found in a crashed glider and the Germans know where the drops are scheduled to occur.
Good luck everyone, and happy hunting.
