Hey guys, I'm looking into possible starting Armada and I have a few questions I could use some help with.
First off, one big interest in the game for me is that I'm hoping to introduce my roommate to it. He's not a wargamer, so he wouldn't be interested if the rules are too complex. Mainly I'm wondering if Armada is easy to teach to newcomers and I just want to make sure it's not like 40k level of rules involved.
My other big question is how much money I would need to invest in order to have both a fleet or rebel and imperial ships. Ideally, I'm looking to spend around $200 on armada, grab the starter set and a couple extra ships for both sides. For medium sized games, would that be enough or would I need to buy more?
I'd also love to get in a demo game sometime if anyone would be willing. I'll be back in town this Friday for at least a month so I'll have plenty of time for that.
Thanks in advance guys.

The rules are MUCH SIMPLER than 40K.
$100 for the starter set $50 ISD $40 Mon Cal
You're at your $200 mark and have only scratched the surface of the game...
Squadrons play a huge part, and the easiest to use and deadliest are the ones from Rogues & Villains set.
I think once you get into it you will end up expanding a bit...
I might be available next weekend to give you a demo. This weekend I'm booked.

Alright that's a relief, much as I like complicated rules for games my roommate wouldn't.
So sounds like $200 won't really be enough. I don't mind scratching the surface though to start, not against building up fleets slowly. As you said best to get into the game first.
I won't be able to make it in this weekend anyway since I'll just be getting back, but next weekend will probably work. Thanks for the tips.

40k has a new edition coming out next month. It has been worked on by members of the community in secret for 3 years. Many of the rules are throwbacks to 2nd and 3rd edition. And it is much more simplified. In all the new rulebook are down to 12 pages that will be available free online.
However for simplified rules xwing is the easiest to catch onto armada is a bit more but still simple and I haven't found a miniature game that isn't brand new and cheap.

I've been following all the 8th edition updates very closely, seems like a pretty mixed bag of some improvements, some dumbing down of the rules that wasn't needed.
Glad to hear Armada is pretty easy to understand. Shame though it will turn out to be more expensive then planned, but I guess that's not much of a surprise for a minatures game.
