Hello all, So I know a lot of people don't play 40k anymore and haven't touched the game for a long while, but if anyone is interested I believe that this new edition coming out is kind of fixing why some people stopped playing. First of all, the rules now are MUCH more streamlined, and when I say much I mean the rules are 12 pages available for free download on the 17th. Codex wise, there are 5, $25 books to collect that cover every army in the 40k universe, which is much better considering there was one for each army at $30-$40! From what I've seen from the new edition is that Age of Sigmar was basically a test game to see if they want 40k to move in that direction kinda like throwing midwar out before early and late war. Any possibility of people wanting to get some games going? ~Josh~

There is some interest on my end. I was a 40k player back in the 90s, but have since mostly stayed away. That being said, we're starting to get into a Shadow War: Armageddon kick using 40k minis, so this would be the logical next step. Even picked up a couple boxes of SM Scouts. I will hopefully be getting my hands on the new 8th edition boxed set in late August/early September.

A bunch of people have been playing 40k at gamers gambit mostly starting with shadowwar small kill team type games. These are like 30-45 min games and we are going to do a small campaign soon. You can make a small killteam here shadow-war.zoneAnd send randy a message and he will invite you to the campaign "Ordo ineptus". If you want to see whomelse has been getting into 40k check the gamers gambit 40k message board to get a random game. m.facebook.com/groups/1528880570732646?multi_permalinks=1900894406864592¬if_t=group_activity¬if_id=1497553770076712&ref=m_notifRegarding 8th edition I have all the PDFs of the rules if anyone wants to look through them. I'm still buying the books I need retail and the Forge world xenos and Astra militarism indexs. I'll play 40k at gamers gambit as it's just more convenient but I'm still going to hobby town for any other gaming right now and I can occasionally play shadowwar at hobbytown if anyone wants. I'll probably be bringing my Conan mini game there Saturday morning. If this video doesn't get you pumped for the Conan game I don't know what will. m.youtube.com/watch?v=17bZPdNDwPI

Hey Josh, what Sam said. We have been playing one-off games to get used to the rules and adjust our kill team lists. We will start a campaign soon so go to the shadow war site Sam gave a link to, make a kill team list and then let me know the name of the team so I can add it.
This goes for anyone else who would like to join it too. There is no commitment to how many times you play so don't worry if you don't think you play that often, it is all for fun.

I played a lot of 7th edition 40k so I'll certainly be playing 8th edition, though I don't think the rules are as great as GW wants everyone to believe. I'd definitely be town for games at gamers gambit or hobbytown whenever I'm in town.

I don't think everything is perfectly balanced but I don't think we have such bad outliers like we had before with ultra strong units like warpspiders vs completely poor units.

Personally I think the only thing they should've kept was universal special rules otherwise I'd say for the most part they've done pretty well! I love how they do armour now terminators are actually a viable option now!

Generally I think the game is dumbed down unnecessarily, particularly in the case of the vehicle rules. If GW really wanted to make vehicles stronger, they could just up the armor values on everything I think that would have been fine, but there was little reason to just roll their rules straight into how everything else works. USRs also didn't need to go, the only difference is now a lot of USRs like deep strike are constantly explained over and over again in different unit entries. My biggest issue though with the new edition is the indexes are incredibly bland, basically just a band aid to give all units stats until codexes are released. Especially as a chaos player it was awesome to finally get legion specific rules 6 months ago, and then they were just brutally ripped out from under us. Even marines lost their chapter tactics, plus all the flavor of army specific lores, items and USRs are basically all gone. Now I know in time GW will release codices for everyone and everything won't be so bland, but it's gonna really suck for those players who have to wait say two years until they get a codex.

Agh ya I get the blandness and the USR could have a few minor similar rules. but I think the old vehicle rules were to all or nothing with weapons and created a system where str6+ Or rend weapons were powerful. I think the new setup is smoother with most vehicles being toughness 8 making them vulnerable but difficult to damage. I also like the gradual degradation of large units. It all feels a lot smoother.

I have to agree, I do like how they did the vehicles again with wounds and the crippling effect. But on the other side they did take a whole heck of a lot of flavor out. I'd rather see them give rules for the keywords, (I.e. "Mark of Khorne" units receive +1 strength, "Mark of Nurgle" gives +1 toughness, etc). I do like putting the armies together into indexes. It just makes it way less expensive but they definitely should have put in the extra couple hours of writing to keep the flavor of armies.

Well soon as the codexes are out the flavor problem will be solved. The coming space marine codex is supposed to be massive so I'm optimistic that the game will improve a lot with the codexes.
For t8 vehicles yeah they are much better than last edition, but anything t7 can be fairly damaged by mass bolter fire which I think is a bit silly.
