I'm working on translating Eric's idea of the random element for the location of the Treasure Well into finalized campaign rules for the territory, and need some number crunching and some input.
What I've got right now for a basic mechanic for how it's going to work is that each time a banner moves into a territory, there is a chance that they may discover one of the markers spoken of in the legend (a d6 roll of '6', possibly). Players (and I) will keep track of how many markers they have each found. When a player has enough markers that he wants to try and find the location of the treasure well, instead of rolling for a marker when a banner enters a territory, he can instead make a roll to search for the treasure. The more markers you have found, the more of a chance you have to find the treasure. Something like 'to search for the treasure, roll 2d6. If you roll under the amount of markers that you have found, you find the treasure well in that territory'
What I need the number crunching for is to work out the averages and see what the die and target numbers should be.
Ideally, I would like to make it so that on average, the Treasure Well would be discovered midway in the campaign (so around turn 10 or so)
Figure for 12 players, each controlling a single banner. Players will get extra banners the more territory they gain, but for right now I'm going to stick with the idea that only one banner can look for a marker/treasure well per turn.
To account for times when banners engage in battle, and thus cannot search, say that each player will be able to search 3 out of 4 turns.
And so I beseech ye, oh shaman of the mathamatics, to show me the numbers so that I might be enlightened
