The Battle of Pont-a-Condemne The ruined steeples and bell towers of Pont-a-Condemne were silhouetted against the bleak overcast sky as the soldiers of Los Temerarios took up their positions amid the ruined buildings. The moans of the walking dead that echoed throughout the city were getting louder now, gaining more clarity. The dead were almost upon them. Their commander cast a glance at those under his command and noted with concern their ashen complexions and widened eyes. They had been in a state of near panic since the advance scouts they had sent into the city were eaten by the living dead, and it was all he could do to keep them facing in the right direction. He had tried to keep the fate of those poor men from the rest of his troops, but the word had gotten out and spread. The previous night a maggot infested carrier pigeon had flown into his tent to deliver a letter written in blood in a painfully scrawled hand on decrepit parchment. The odious missive had read: pLeeS sEND moR ScOwtz tHEy veRee TAstEE [/b] The parchment had been sealed with a human tongue half melted to its surface, with a crude sigil branded into it. The seal of the Prince of Zombies. The legends of a feudal hierarchy of zombies dwelling in the ruined city were apparently true. Now it would fall to the Los Temerarios to topple this wretched Kingdom of the Zombies and cleanse the city of their filth, so that it may one day be restored. A panicked cry of alarm brought the commander out of his reverie. He could see them now, shambling down the street toward them. An entire wall of the living dead, hungry for their flesh. He hoped that Sigmar would be merciful to them today. To be continued...[/i]

Los Temerarios turn 1The Empire stayed their ground at the face of the undead advance and fired everything they had into said face. A cannonball fell directly on the head of an unfortunate zombie and several more were wiped out in a volley of handgunner fire. The imperial battle wizard was unsuccessful in casting his pyrotechnic spells, and the hellblaster exploded after mowing down over a dozen zombies in one unit, reducing that mob to half strength. Kingdom of the Zombies turn 1Having been forced to deploy far back in the ruined city, the Prince of Zombies and his Sheriff of Rot both flew out to join their marshalling ranks while on the backs of their grotesque decomposing mounts. The zombie mobs meanwhile continued to shamble forward towards the empire line, drawn by the smell of the burning entrails and body parts of the late hellblaster crew. A pair of corpse carts lurched along amid the mobs of zombies. The zombie giant attempted to move through the debris of some crumbled buildings and come in on the flank of a group of imperial swordsmen coming in from a side street, but stumbled and fell amid the wreckage. Wielding their unholy necromantic sorceries, the Prince of Zombies and the Sheriff of Rot restored grisly animation to most of the zombies felled in initial salvo of the Imperial firearms. From his vantage point on the nearby crumbling rooftops, the Festering Magistrate spurred one of the zombie mobs forward into the intersection directly at the captain's unit of spearmen. Los Temerarios turn 2The imperial steam tank charged forward, belching smoke from its boiler into the overcast morning sky. Barreling straight into the mob of zombies as they moved into the intersection, the massive war machine crushed bones and pulped putrid flesh beneath its wheels, wiping out over a third of the group in its initial impact. The swordsmen marching up through the side street charged into the mob as well hacking away at the rotting shamblers. The tank driver completed the decimation of the group by sweeping the steam gun about on those of the walking dead that survived the initial impact. The handgunners continued to unleash deadly volleys of lead at the walking corpses, while the battle wizard loosed a fiery blast at one of the approaching corpse carts, setting it ablaze. The flaming zombies pulled the rolling bonfire several more feet before they and their conveyance collapsed into the gutter and continued to burn. The Imperial engineer ordered the cannon to fire at the other corpse cart but overshot the target and blew a large hole in the side of a crumbling building. The engineer feared they would not get to fire their cannon ever again, as two mobs of the dead were shambling past the ruined church and were about to overtake their position, however the pistoleers of the Los Temerarios soon rode to their defense, charging up the ramp leading from the lower levels of the city with their guns blazing away at the rotting faces of an advancing mob. Bravely they put themselves between the living dead and the Imperial cannon crew. Galloping up the ramp now behind the pistoleers were the armored knights of the Los Temerarios, eager for a fight. Kingdom of the Zombies turn 2The zombie mobs all surged forward now, their rotting senses overwhelmed with the scent of fresh prey. Two of the mobs fall upon the stalwart pistoleers who bravely stand their ground, while the other mob piles into the flank of the swordsmen who had just helped vanquish their brethren. As the zombies rip and tear at their flesh, the swordsmen lose their nerve and try to flee, but a number of them are dragged down and eaten by the zombie mob. The fleeing of the swordsmen and the screams of those being eaten alive panics one of the handgunner units and causes them to abandon their position and flee the battle as well. The pistoleers receive similar treatment from the walking dead, the zombies feasting upon first their horses and then the men themselves, dragging them down and tearing at their innards with filthy claws. The cannon crew blanches at the sight of the gruesome slaughter taking place before them, but maintains their steely resolve.

Los Temerarios turn 3The Imperial swordsman manage to pull themselves together and turn back around to face the enemy, forming up behind the captain and his squad of spearmen, which stands at the ready. Turning 30 degrees to the right, the powerful steam tank surges forward down the street, broadsiding the remaining corpse as it moves into another intersection and utterly demolishing it. With a battle cry, the general charges his Imperial knights directly into the mob of zombies about to fall upon the cannon crew, intending to avenge the valiant pistoleers who had just given their lives for the glory of the Empire. His unit carves a deep swath in their ranks, felling more than half their number. The cannon crew fires at the towering zombie engine that was shambling in to reinforce the zombie mobs, the cannonball tearing off one of its limbs. The battle wizard casts another fiery blast that engulfs the head and upper torso of the rotting zombie giant that has gotten to its feet and was making its way toward the battle line of the Los Temerarios footsoldiers. Kingdom of the Zombies turn 3Still ablaze, the cadaverous behemoth charged at the Imperial swordsman, who lost their nerve once again, this time fleeing from the field of battle completely. At the same time, the zombie mob that had recently sampled some of their flesh moved forward and engaged the Imperial captain and his spearmen. The captain and his men were ready for this charge, however, and stood their ground, reducing the ranks of the oncoming dead by several. The Prince of Zombies now took wing on his zombie dragon, landing directly behind the spearmen, and chasing the swordsman from the battle with a blast of pestilential breath. The damaged zombie engine continued to shamble forward, and the corpse knights were now moving in to lend support to the undead forces. The Sheriff of Rot perched his flying beast on a platform at the foot of one of the bell towers, and observed the battle, waiting for his time to strike. Between, he, the Prince of Zombies, and the Rotting Magistrate, they managed to reanimate nearly a dozen of their fallen minions, bolstering somewhat the ranks depleted by the knights and spearmen. Los Temerarios turn 4Once again the mighty steam tank charges forward, this time directly at the damaged zombie engine, colliding with it head on and completely destroying it, scattering its rotting pieces over the cobblestone street. Nearby, the knights continue to cut down zombies faster than their leaders can restore them to life. The Imperial engineer directs his crew to pivot the great cannon and fire at the fearsome zombie dragon that had just landed behind the captain's spearmen and was spraying its pestilential breath everywhere. The fired cannonball hits its mark, blowing a huge hole through the center of the dragon's mass but not destroying it. Still the dragon was wavering and listing now, with much of its rotting innards hanging out. The engineer hoped it would be enough to save the spearmen. Said spearmen continued in their struggle against the zombie mob that was upon them, striking down more of the horrible things and losing only one man in return. Meanwhile, from their perch in a ruined building, the handgunners and the battle wizard were feverishly attempting to finish off the zombie giant before it could enter the fray, but to no avail. The handgunners bullets were not enough, and the wizard's sorcery was countered by the unholy magicks of the Prince of Zombies. Kingdom of the Zombies turn 4The Prince of Zombies and the still-burning giant now charged the captain and his band of spearmen from the side and from the rear while they continued to fight for thier lives against the zombies. The giant swept into the unit with its great claw, slaying four of the men, however the still listing dragon was unable to fight effectively, and the Prince of Zombies only managed to claim a single victim in the initial charge. At the same time the rest of the zombies were slain by the Los Temerarios, and as the spearmen turned to face their attackers, their hearts were now filled with the hope that they may yet survive this battle. The corpse knights, meanwhile, had gotten into position to charge the dreaded steam tank, and so now burst forward with a speed defying their rotting forms and crash into the side of the tank with a tremendous force. However, the armor of the tank holds, and the lances are unable to damage the tank in the slightest. At the same time, the Sheriff of Rot makes an ill-advised charge into the flank of the knight unit, but is easily destroyed by the surging knights, along with rest of the zombie mob he had come to defend.

Los Temerarios turn 5Having withstood the charge of the corpse knights, the Imperial steam tank now steers into their ranks and begins running them down. Those rotting horsemen that are not crushed beneath the tank's mass have the putrid flesh melted from their bones by the steam cannon. Before long, the undead cavalry are completely destroyed. At the same time the general now sends his knights forward into the last remaining group of zombies, decimating their ranks with the initial charge and leaving only half of them standing. The captain and his men do not share the same fortunes however, for while they held on valiently, they are overwhelmed by the combined might of the rotting giant, the dragon, and the Prince of Zombies. Taking enormous casualties, the unit breaks and is run down by the monstrous behemoths and slain to the last man. Kingdom of the Zombies turn 5The zombie giant, still on fire, lumbers up behind the steam tank and grabs hold of it, crushing part of the boiler pipe with its claw hand. At the same time, the Prince of Zombies spurs his disintegrating dragon to take flight once again, landing a short distance off the flank of the general and his knights. The zombie master attempts to use his foul necromancy to spur his mount forward into the side of the generals unit, but the magic of the Kingdom of the Zombies finally falters, and neither the Prince nor his Festering Magistrate are able to ensorcel the rotting dragon into action, and the Imperial general and his knights are free to cut down the rest of the zombie mob.
