There is something about undead warriors that has fascinated me since long time ago, I think it started it when I was 8 or 9 years old and saw the old 60’s movie version of Jason and the Argonauts, that scene with the skeleton warriors just got implanted permanently in my mind. Then not long ago another movie left another fixed image, this time it was Pirates of the Caribbean, more specifically The Black Pearl Curse; exactly… more undead warriors, well pirates in this case. So when I started playing WH40K, I couldn’t help to think that it would be really cool to mix all this ideas into one theme army, something that I could build up with great attention to detail and as a long term project, so the next step would be to find the right faction that could fit on this undead-space-pirate theme; first I thought on Chaos Marines, but undead pirates riding on Rhinos wasn’t cool enough; then there was the Dark Eldar that had some of the components of my idea, even transports with sails (right Bob?) but still didn’t quite fit the undead part. So I left the idea in the back of my head lurking for an opportunity to jump out again, until finally I saw this… YES!!! That could be a Pirate ship with undead (reanimated) metal skeletons inside, that’s perfect!! The project just started this past weekend and the first skeleton warriors have been glued, but nothing to show as progress yet; I’ll keep posting updates as this is advancing.

Yes, Rod, abandon the Imperium for the undying horde! I really do love the new necron models - I can see how it would make you want to start an army. Eventually when I have some money again, I want to pick up some of the new kits and build my necrons to 2000 pts. In the meantime though, I'm looking forward to seeing your necron army come together. PICS PICS PICS! Have you decided on a paint scheme yet?

Not completely sure on the paint scheme yet but in my head, I have a rusty/bronze color with chipped paint from the large armor areas and lots of Necron symbols as if they were tattoos; the bases are going to be important part of the theme, this space-skeleton-pirates are coming from a volcanic planet, so I'll include some lava

This project is now in full steam ahead, somewhere around 1500 points are already built and I’m adding little by little the conversions. I’m planning on post more pictures during this weekend, but I leave you with this teaser Is it enough bugs? ;D

No, not enough bugs Rod. I only see enough to make 20 or so bases.

These bugs are awesome. I plan on countering them with more vehicles....which Brian told me was a good idea.

I finally had some time today to work on my Necrons project and take some pictures to share with everybody, hope you guys like it. The general theme is, as I mentioned before, a pirate army, a recently awaken fleet from a Volcanic/lava covered planet, which gives me the basic idea for the bases. Let’s start with the warriors; these guys are going to be lightly modified with green stuff, most likely no more than a third of all them, the rest are going to be the basic model, so far five are ready. The command group will be the Fleet Commodore (Phaeron) and a Fleet Captain (Overlord) with four Midshipmen (Crypteks), here the Commodore with the biggest possible hat and the Captain with a resurrection orb hanging on his chest. The fleet will have three ships (names ideas are accepted) and the Ensigns (pilots) will receive their share of green-stuff. And finally the scarabs, I wanted a lot of them and make them look like they are overrunning vehicles remains. I think this is one of the coolest conversion I’ve done and am very happy with the result so far… painting is still pending. PS. Thanks to Ian for all the bits he gave me, those bases wouldn't look that cool without your generous help

Really looks good Rod. The Greenstuff work is very clean, nice technique. Those scarabs are ace too.
As far as pirate ship names...
Awakened Galley. Immortals Revenge. Rising storm.

They look awesome, Rod. This is going to be a cool theme, the subtle sashes and bandanas on the Necron Warriors works out really well. Pirate ship names? The Leviathan. Barge of the Damned (Barge of the Everliving? Barge of the Dead?) Here's a link of historical pirate ship names: www.vleonica.com/ship_cap.htm

Hmm I'm thinking some kind of solar panels maybe? I can see it's going to be a race between you, me and Timmy to see who can get their conversion heavy army finished by BFS in October. I definitely wouldn't put money on me with my track record
