Samurai pros- awesome, cool miniatures, probably are quite good, i could finish the army quite quickly, old glory has great service and quality cons- 25mm miniatures, a bit more expensive than warlord, different time period, other side of the world, wouldn't make much sense miniature sight used- www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=53and on the other Thebes- pros- cheep to collect, already have some, correct time period, same part of the world cons- annoying to build that many guys, already a greek and Macedonian player, takes a long time to ship miniature sight used- warlord games aduhh now im currently leading towards samurai but im stuck on what to play

You can make a Roman army to help out Tom. They are easy to get and cheap. No one is playing the Germanic tribes. Also easy and cheap. I can either Roman or Germanic at a hobby shop near me at work for you. They are the Might of Rome collection but the right size and cheaper than the Hail Caesar figures. Here is a link. wargamesfactory.com/webstore/might-of-romeI would stay away from the samurai as they don't fit in with what we are doing. Vince still has his eye on the vikings even though he ordered the spartan army box. What ever you buy there will be a lot of building and painting. Maybe we could have a painting the ancients day at the shop when we get our shipments in.

Grady while I'm sure samuri would be cool I would greatly prefer if you went for Thebes or another ancient army of the time. You can get whatever army you want, but with the samuri they completetly don't fit in with the time period. Even more of an issue for setting they are on the other side of the world's largest contient. There just isn't a good scenario for an ancient or medieval army to fight the japanese. No Europeans even reached Japan until 1543.
Now I'd also agree with Randy and say Tom could use some help with his Romans. They are a nice army and I was tempted by them for awhile. May still get a small force of them eventually because they are a cheap army. But balance is something I wouldn't worry about too much. What you should do is get the army you like most from the time period, and if that's Greeks go for it. It doesn't matter that we already have another Greek army, and mine is quite different from the Greek lists so no worries.
I'm tempted to get some Saxons once my Selucid army is finished. They could face off against Vince's vikings if he gets any. Only issue with those armies is they are not very diverse..75% or more of the army is made up of heavy infantry.

I think the Germans are a fun choice. you can also play them as Vikings...maybe. Sometime down the road, I might do a samurai army with you, but with all their armor, flags and ceremonial dodads, I think you're underestimating what that kind of army would take in terms of work and paint.
Do the greeks or the germanic tribes.

Stick to Spartans for now. Everyone else is staying in the classical period at the moment. Let's all get armies in one time period and then we can consider more time periods down the road.

I meant in a year or two when our Hail Caesar armies are finished.

Then yes perhaps. That's awhile off so I wouldn't give it too much thought just yet.

I'd go for whichever you like more. Don't bother with balance, scenarios can take care of that.
