I'll give you all till the end of the post to see if you can get the reference in the title.
So they're going to be starting up a 1600 pt league down here at Coliseum of Comics, and I'm planning on using my Skaven. I haven't used the rats in over five years, I don't think. I think I used them once when I tried to teach Mrs. Carnivean how to play, and that was the last time. I think all totalled I've only used the army twice, which is kind of a shame, since I painted them all up. Of course, now I'm completely revamping them and giving everything a new paint job or at least touch ups, and adding in some stuff I bought when the new book came out a couple years back.
So here's everything I've got. I think I can actually field it all at once in 8th ed rules, and it would be somewhere around 3500 pts.
All My Skaven sounds like it should be the name of a soap opera, doesn't it?
Bold & Underline = fully painted and ready to go
Bold only = has some paint on it - something from my original army, or something I'm currently in the process of painting
Italics = unpainted and/or unassembled
Vermin Lord
Gray Seer/Screaming Bell
Warlord/Chieftain
Plague Priest/Plague Furnace
Assassin
Assassin
Warplock Engineer
Warplock Engineer
x60 Clanrats
x30 Clanrats
x30 Clanrats
x40 Giant Rats/x3 Packmasters
x50 Skaven Slaves
x25 Stormvermin
Ratling Gun
Warpfire Thrower
Warpfire Thrower
Doom Flayer
x40 Plague Monks
x6 Plague Censor Bearers
x8 Poison Wind Globadiers with Poison Wind Mortar
x2 Poison Wind Globadiers
x9 Rat Ogres/x3 Packmasters
Warp Lightning Cannon
Doomwheel
Hell Pit Abomination
So the league runs for six Saturdays between this weekend and June 23rd. 1600 is an odd point value, but I suspect it's because it won't be starting until 6PM on those nights and they want to make sure it wraps around their 8PM closing time. My skaven aren't really character heavy, so that point value suits them fine.
The list I think I'm going with for the first week is:
Warplock Engineer w level 2 upgrade, dispel scroll
Assassin w weeping blade
x60 clanrats w spears, shields, full command
Ratling gun weapon team
x50 slaves w spears, pawleader, musician
x40 giant rats/x3 packmasters
x8 poison wind globadiers w bombadier, death globe
Poison wind mortar weapon team
x9 Rat Ogres/x3 packmasters w master moulder & master-bred ogre
This first list is kind of a "this is what we've got ready right now, let's have fun with it and see how things go"
Mostly it's stuff that won't be around in future lists, so might as well take it out and play with it now.
I had the warp lightning cannon in there, but decided against it with the big rat ogre unit so as not to tempt costly misfires, the most likely result of which is rolling the scatter die and firing the cannon at max damage in a random direction, and threw the assassin into the clanrat unit instead.
For the second league game mid-May I'll have the plague priest and his big plague furnace unit and the censor bearers and will probably be dropping the giant rats, scaling back the slaves to just meet the core requirement, and getting rid of the assassin and engineer.
Eventually I'd like to try dropping the slaves entirely and running two 30 man clanrat units with weapon teams. And of course the hell pit abomination I want to get in there as soon as he's done. Maybe I'll try and work him into the list for the second game if the painting goes well. If not, maybe the doomwheel.
And here it is
We watched it the other weekend and I've been wanting to use that quote in a post.
Actually knowing me it's quite possible I decided to use skaven in the fantasy league just so I could use that quote in a post
