So, weird things are a foot for BFS. The Warmachine/Hordes event I was signed up for was cancelled due to lack of enrollment. I was hemming and hawing about playing in the 40k event; and then Bob called me this afternoon to let me know that he wasn't going to be able to play in the event after all and offered me his spot. So, I need a list, and I need some help making it!
280 - Swarmlord 65 - Tyrant Guard w/Lash Whip 100 - 2x Hive Guard 100 - 2x Hive Guard 184 - 8x Ymgarl Genestealers 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 50 - 10x Termagants 50 - 10x Termagants 50 - 10x Termagants 200 - Trygon 200 - Trygon 1984
My hands are a little tied by what models I have available and painted... I have a bunch of Raveners to use, but worry that those get flattened by giant Instant Death ignores cover Riptide blast templates. If I ask nicely, Tim might let me borrow his Trygon; and then I can run 3 of those suckers for an even 2000. I have a few Zoanthropes I could run for psychic powers, but not really feeling that. Could use the Deathleaper, but he's a real finesse tool that I don't have much practice with (or a brain to know how to run him). I'm trying to take Tim's advice -- assuming Tyranids get an update in January, this is likely the last time Hive Fleet Jackalope will take the field in this incarnation. To that end, I'm trying to use the awesome models I like in this codex before they get changed...
Swarmlord while he's still mega broken OP. Tervigon spam while it's still underpriced. Ymgarl Genestealers before they lose the ability to assault out of reserves.
This look solid to you folks?

you know that my 40K proficiency is anything but that, so my advice would be to send a text message to Tim and make sure that he knows you would like to borrow the Trygon

Hmmmmm, my Trygon you say. Let me check his calendar, he may booked for another engagement if not he's all yours if you want. Would he be replacing th ymgarls?

Yeah, he would replace the Ymgarls. He's a bit easier to play; drives home the MC theme (51 T6 wounds!).. won't match my painting standards, though ;P just kidding. I'm leaning towards the Ymgarls, actually... they make more sense for a bunch of reasons. Tactically, my list lacks a fast moving unit to get into the backfield and project a threat, which the Ymgarls are pretty good at. I also am in love with assault-out-of-reserve abilities, and this is likely going to be the last time I get to abuse it!
Now, just have to remember the control range on the Swarmlord and figure out if his feat will affect Genestealers... wait, what game are we playing?

I'd be really tempted to take Mawlocs instead of Trygons, he large blast hitting units works really well against armies like Tau when the bunch up. That also saves you some points and (80 I think) which with the 16 you have could allow you to pump up your Y-stealer unit. Also if they come up turn 2 they provide multiple targets for Interceptor fire, otherwise I fear those Y stealers might get blow up on the drop.

It is funny the way things work out because I was actually coming on here Monday morning to offer you my ticket Brian, when I saw that Bob had to drop out too and already gave you his! I hit a roadblock with my custom dark eldar army and after being up have the night Sunday throwing alternate lists around, I decided to sit the tournament out to spend more time visiting in lieu of dropping the $300+ on hotel and food to get tabled every game with a CSM army I don't even have the current codex for. I'm still going to come up there to check it out at some point and cheer the remaining Ordo players on and check out Tim's awesome display in person.
I'm so out of the loop with Nids and 40K in general right now I can't give any imput on the list and can only convey my sincerest wish that your bugs get to peel of power armor off of many tasty Imperium, Tau and Eldar soldiers and devour the morsels inside. Not Orks though - I'm told they have a bad aftertaste.

That's a bummer Jason, but I'm glad that we'll get to see you in person! Ironically, my first two day tournament worked out the same way... a bunch of guys were going to play, conflicts came up at the last second, and then Tim and I were left as the only two representing the Ordo. This is the list I'm looking at, with a few revisions... 280 - Swarmlord 65 - Tyrant Guard w/Lash Whip 150 - 3x Hive Guard 140 - Doom of Malantai, Spore Pod 184 - 8x Ymgarl Genestealers 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 235 - Tervigon, TS+AG, 3x Psychic Powers, Crushing Claws 50 - 10x Termagants 50 - 10x Termagants 50 - 10x Termagants 170 - Mawloc 170 - Mawloc 2004 Taking some suggestions from you folks! I have to double check points (or trim some upgrades otherwise... Quartermaster says Mawlocs are 170, though I wish they were 160!)... lots of Turn 2 reserve shenanigans hopefully gives me a game against some of the wonkier gunlines that are popular at the moment. Doom of Malan'tai is another great broken model to get my last hurrah with! I'll be painting up his spore pod out of an easter egg thingy Friday night... I hope BFS is liberal about the 3 colors thing... Not very well practiced with some of the trickier portions of this list, but it'll be fun. And I can run SL/HG/Tervigons on autopilot well enough, I hope. Looking forward to rolling dice and having a good time, seeing how bad the meta is first hand!

Mawlocs are fun with all there shenanigans, I kinda miss the trygons pure power though. Mawlocs will also be easier to keep safe in a round of big guns. And you can score where you need too. I think I can work. Target priority will be important but I think you can manage that just fine.

Looks interesting enough! Make sure you bring plenty of Gants so you're not limited...they'll get shot down by the double handfuls, so make sure you can poop out more than you think you'll need!

Are the nids still rumored to be getting another codex this year?

They were originally rumored for November, but I think January is the most concrete rumor for now... making this the last time I likely use the current codex, since I've been busy working on Khador stuff/Warmachine.
Hopefully I can find more gaunts!

Good, I'll have Skeletor's army finished by then, and then maybe I'll expand my nids to 2500 or so. I have an unassembled tervigon but I've been holding off doing anything else till the new codex is out and now that I'm working I'll actually be able to update an army with the new codex instead of having to wait till it's literally unfieldable in standard games like most of my fantasy armies are right now.
