So when I said I was starting Tyranids a few days ago I meant..Necrons! Robots with laser (er gauss..) guns appeal to me more than hordes of bio engineered monsters. So here is my first 1k list based around the battalion box so I can get it up and running fairly soon. Overlord-135pts Resurrection Orb Sempiternal Weave Cryptek-30pts (goes with the immortals) tremmorstave 16 Necron Warriors-208 10 Immortals-270pts -night scythe transport 2 destroyers-80pts annihilation barge-90pts doomsday ark-175pts So basic plan is I have my necron warrior tarpit with the overlord to hold the objective or just to absorb fire while everything else blasts everything and I have the immortals to drop in and seize and objective or just do more blasting. Might not keep the cryptek but I figured he just adds a little firepower to the immortals.

I'm sure that your recent change of heart has nothing to do with the general negative opinion about the new tyranid book of suck just teasing, Necrons are awesome. Hard to judge such a small list, but you have plenty of the essentials so you're on the right track. I love Spyders and Scarab swarms, so check those guys out.

I didn't read too much about it online so other than hearing your cries of anguish I don't know much about the new nids. I definitely want to add spiders later. You just can't go wrong with a T6 50pts MC that can take a s6 ap5 blast weapon. Scarabs though I'm not sure about but I'll get a few from the battle force so I'll have a few lying around to try out.

The warriors on foot will be dead to shooting in a turn, or beaten in melee and break and be killed without having a chance to get back up.
Immortals are a bit harder to kill, and have a better gun, but you're hiding them in the Scythe.
Flip it around, put the blob of immortals with the tank on the table, and have two minimum units of Warriors in two Night Scythes which put out good firepower and can drop you on objectives late-game.
Annihilation Barges are about the best 90 points you can spend in the game, 2 or 3 of them is a good target for even small points games. I think you're better with a second AB instead of the Ark.
I think the destroyers might be overpriced and ineffective.
I don't think you'll get much mileage from the tremorstave either...I don't remember the name, but consider the guy with the staff with four haywire shots.

Ya people over on the Necron forum echoed a lot of what you are saying so I changed my list.
Overlord Resurrection Orb Sempiternal Weave warscythe
Cryptek-goes with the immortals voltaic staff (the haywire weapon) field of lightening
15 Necron Warriors
10 Immortals -night scythe transport
2 annihilation barges
doomsday ark
I'm not a huge fan of the ark but it comes with the battleforce so to keep just my starter list cheap I'm going to use it.
I'm not sure I agree on the warriors. With reanimation protocols, the orb, t4 and a +4 save I don't see them going down quickly, and I gave the overlord a warscythe so he's a bit more potent in CC to help them deal with melee threats. With the immortals in the scythe they can get into position quickly and start blasting things with their gauss blasters. I'd consider warriors in night scythes but that's a bit pricey at 1k and I like the immortals.

4 Wave Serpents (pretty standard complement these days) does 16 wounds to the unit.
One Broadside unit does 12.
One Swooping Hawk unit (of 6) will kill 5.
A Riptide, if you're medium-squished, will probably kill 4 more.
All of those things are in the army I will likely be taking to Templecon at 1850.
My "Screamerstar" will average 22 wounds to the unit (including slash attacks).
Please believe me when I say T4/4+ is NOT SURVIVABLE. You can't make reanimation protocols when the unit is wiped, and a shooty army will just blow the unit off the table and be done with it.
Or I'll charge it with one Daemon Prince such that the OL can't challenge, win combat by 4-5, and kill you in sweeping advance.
Hands down the greatest strength of the Necrons is their ability to hide their troops out of harms way and deploy them virtually anywhere on the table whenever they want. They win and lose by their ability to hide a bunch of Warriors in Night Scythes, where theya re COMPLETELY SAFE (even if the Scythe dies!) and have them land on objectives turn 5 with absolute assurance.

Please believe me when I say T4/4+ is NOT SURVIVABLE. Bob I've trusted your judgement on 40k ever since you smashed by CSM with your horde of steeds of Slaanesh/flesh hounds. (And awhile before that..) So how about dropping the Doomsday Ark and going for putting the warriors in a ghost ark? In that case I'd take a few more immortals and maybe something else.. Also I'm interested to hear what you have to say about the 2k list I'm working on: Overlord warscythe resurrection orb sempiternal weave mindshackle scarabs Cryptek-goes with immortals lightening field voltaic staff 20 necron warriors 10 immortals night scythe 10 deathmarks Triarch Stalker particle shredder 4 Canoptek Wraiths whip coils 3 heavy destroyers 6 scarab swarms 2 Annihilation Barges 2 Canoptek Spiders twin linked particle beamer I have 300pts left which I'd probably spend on more troops because 2 isn't enough, perhaps divide the warrior unit into 2 and put them in ghost arks? I know night scythes are sweet but I'm not looking for the ultra power play list here..ghost arks it a little more toned down. Based on your comment on the warriors I should probably also add more scarabs.
