So I've been MIA for a few weeks with the end of school closing in, and the wonderful experience of not having a bathroom. I think a lot of us have been scattered to the wind recently, but I want to plan something for the summer we can look forward to or enjoy on our time. I know as teachers Kevin and I have some more time this summer than many others, and I am willing to be the chief organizer and planner of any of the above events. I am NOT free the last week of July due to an educational conference, and I have 2 weddings in the beginning and end of august. But my weekdays are usually free. For painting, planning and working. And I have Mid July (2 weekends) and mid August (2 weekends) Where I can serve as ringer or game master, or what have you.
We have some options to choose from, and in typical Tom fashion, I wanted to post a poll, so I could get an idea as to what people are interested in. You can choose as many as you like, just don't vote for the ones you'd rather not. once we nail down which of these people want to move forward with, I'll try and nail down a date and more specific details. Also, feel free to post your thoughts or ideas here in addition to voting, feedback is always appreciated.
The Options:
Midwar tournament: Its been 3 years by our reckoning that we last had a NON late War Tourney. Most of the models are similar to LW, but there is a distinctly different flavor. We could also do an eastfront or desert theme, or something else fun with it if people chose. THis would be a one dayer, and wouldn't require a lot of committment. We could post it to the Jersey Crowd and our friends over in Catskill and see who is game.
Raiding Aces League: Something new, with new missions, that is also a play as you can kind of format. We've been fans of these campaigns before, and this might be a fun way to get painting again, or have some casual games in a structure.
Bring your worst: An Idea I've toyed with for awhile, bringing the worst possible list to a tournament and having the other person play it. You must have the models, and it must be a legal list, but that is a trophy anyone should be proud to come home with. and it would be a hilarious mess.
Market Garden Campaign: at this point I think Me, SHane, and Kevin all have copies of this game. I was also seriously considering magnetizing mine...because thats who I am. Last time we played a modified and simplified version of this. If we do this again I would want a more complete campaign played over a few weeks. We could get in games, kick it off with a fun day, and close it out with a big battle. I also have every allied force in the books, and am happy to leave whatever at the club for people to play with. At this point I have enough Germans to run those too. That said, this is somewhat complex, and could be too big a committment, I understand if people gravitate to something shorter, or less involved.
DDay or Pacific Mega Battle: Could be a load of fun. and I know we have players for whom this is a period of interest. Proxies welcome, suggestions as well. We don't have the upstairs, so it my be difficult to do something on the huge scale we've done before, but with the amount of players we have, we could make it work in our room. Kevin's Bulge Battle shook that out as a possibility.
Team Yankee: More toys are on the way, and last time we had only a few. More with more armies may be around for a quick 1 day tourney, so those interested give a holler.
Painting Day: Or Competition. I missed the last club event that featured painters. This includes all game systems, is something all of us usually procrastinate on (me specifically) and I enjoy seeing others techniques. If we had enough interest we could do a platoon contest of some sort, or hold a raffle for people that meet painting goals? who knows.
So Sorry for the long post, but I know since I'm grounded most of this summer I want to make the most of a good group of folks and some fun hobbytime. And while pick up games are always great, I love having something bigger to work for or look forward to.
