But thats my point, you have a 15" threat range on that spell already... and most people's infantry will be on their front line anyway and thats who you will be hitting with this spell. So I dont think you need an arc node for it.
Thats a good point and its why i dont usually use a mechanix. But With you already having wracks I thought it might be a better use of 1pt.
Youre just inexperienced. And youre not going to not win because you arent good. Youre going to not win because Im going to win
.
The way I see warmachine is the game is a puzzle. If you ever pick up one of their "No Quarter" magezines... kinda like whitedwarf only better, Ill try to find the one I own and bring it in sometime. It has a great section in each one where they have basically a vassal picture of the board with measurements and how much focus or fury you have or what not and ask you if you were the player who's turn it was how could you win that turn.
Its that aspect of the game that I really like. Unlike 40k where you are playing a whole game everytime to see who wins. In warmachine you have to ask yourself each turn can I win this turn... or if you cant make sure you can set it up for next turn without putting yourself in a losing position.
I tend to choose to go second a lot for this reason. I basically think that by going second I will get a long shot chance of winning on turn 2 and should have a solid chance to win turn 3. If a game ever goes to 4 it means either my opponent is being particularly scared... or Ive chosen to simply kill all their stuff instead of going for the caster(or Ive made some mistakes and its time to run).
Most of the time though the game is over turn 3-4. Especially with scenarios keeping you centralized.
So the next few times you play start to pay attention to what your habits and your opponents habits are. Then you can start to see where you are weak and need to adjust your lists. And you can start to see the pieces you are missing.
For example my lists are based around my initial games with Eric when we were learning the game. I had chosen Harbinger and he eventually came to be using eHaley. initially I had heavy combat lists with cheap Crusaders and the scourge of heresy. but Haley's feat really stunts the effect of all combat lists. So I began to search for shooting alternatives to cover some of my weakness... so now my 2 go to jacks are a Reckoner and Vanquisher as they do similar things, both have a deent pow gun that can effect jacks and also have a decent melee weapons. The Reckoner is stronger and faster in combat, while the Vanquisher has a blast weapon and limited thresher for handling gobs of infantry.
Added to those were the 2 go to support units for menoth the choir and the vassal.
Another issue that cropped up for me early on was being knocked down. To cover this issue I turned to the Covenant of Menoth. I hardly use its anti knockdown power any more, though it is nice to have. But now use it almost exclusively to trap opponents casters with its anti magic chant.
At first I was using Bastions which are great tough heavy infantry. What I found was that they didnt bring enough to the table, with Harbinger any infantry is infinitely tough, and Bastions simply didnt have the offensive output or additional support rules to augment my army. So I turned to a few combat solos like Paladins and Nicia, each with additional rules to really mess with my opponent. As well as the character unit Rhoven because it has some support rules to use when i cant get it into combat.
My games typically go like this. Turn 1 I tend to run my jacks either their full distance or around 8" to stay parallel and not get too far ahead of the choir. Turn 2 I position infantry, if there is a tasty infantry target to the front of the enemy unit Ill send Nicia in to eliminate it and then have her move into position to mess up his charge lanes. Ill also start to shoot with my jacks. If he is hanging back Ill use the speed and range of the reckoner to get a shot and if the Vanquisher cant get range Ill run it to get range and then use the vassal to give it a shot. Then turn 3 Ill be looking to put the munch on either the enemy's biggest heavy or hopefully their caster. Rinse and repeat if turn 4 is necessary.
So look at your own turn by turn routine and see what choices could be influenced by that.
Everything in a warmachine list interlocks. And unlike 40k I dont think that duplication of units gives you a better chance. Often you need a diversity of units to handle different jobs.
So for example. The tier 4 ability of your list gives warjacks extra speed. But if you are now running your max of 12 then you are way out of choir range so you would have to choose to either not have their effects up turn 1, or perhaps not turn 2. So if either of those results is no good for you then maybe you dont need the tier. If you are already paying the points for wracks then maybe you dont need tier 3. Advance deploy on the cleansers is nice... but do you need it? I dunno, is it worth having to take 2 of them instead of one unit and then a different unit of our great weapon master infantry. So its things like this to think about when evaluating your list in your games with Bobby and Mikey.
I really like Reznik as a caster. I think he can be a total badass.
I think I might run something like this:
Reznik + 6
Reckoner - 7
Templar - 8
4 Choir of Menoth 2 points
6 Flameguard Cleansers 5 points
3 Cinerators - 5
3 Wracks - 1
Vassal of Menoth - 2
Vassal mechanik - 1
Its still tier 1. But has some other things in it.(also uses some of the models I know you own
Reznik can get protected marching forward by the medium based heavy infantry. Reckoner gives you a little utility shooting and strong speed. Templar is a nice jack, hits pretty well and has reach even though it is slow. And with its shield it sports arm 21 which should make it a big load to eat through, means mike's Drago jack should have a really hard time eating through it at dice -5, and with the meckanik you can get its slightly damaged systems back online. So if youre experimenting as you go forward maybe this will give you some ideas.
