Okay so there has been a lot of positive feedback on the battlebox tournament format. I'll leave it up to the club officers to decide on the best time (my thought is January, personally) but let me present the details for the tournament as they stand right now:
- 1 List only
- 10 points OR battlegroup box (or equivalent, posted at the bottom)
- Warjacks/Warbeasts only, no character models
- 6+ rounds, round-robin style, 30 minute rounds, 5 minute turns with a single 2 minute turn extension
- Games will be played on 2x2' boards, with 5" (player 1) and 7" (player 2) radial deployments, with modified SR scenarios (TBD)
Prizes (equal value, TBD by club officers):
1) Best general - win/loss record with control points used as tie-breaker.
2) Painting Raffle - each player with a fully-painted and based battlegroup will get one entry into the raffle.
3) Gentleman's Award - decided by popular vote among the players, the winner of this award should be considered a positive, contributing member of the community - be it by being a great painter, being a good sport, or being an awesome general.
There has been some discussion about the prizes and I want to clarify something. The purpose of the prize support is to encourage players to participate and be overall great players. Sure, we can jockey to see who's "the best", but we want to build up a community of player who paint their armies (regardless of how skilled they may be) and generally try to be nice players who try to relax and have fun. My hope is that these prizes will serve as motivation to get players to participate in a positive way instead of discouraging players from painting ("Well, person X will just win the painting prize anyway") or trying their best ("There are only prizes for winning, so why should I bother?").
