Okay here is the dark elf army I'm going to bring with me on Friday to play against Bob's KhorneCows.
I haven't used them in about four years or so, back in 6th ed, so it was cool putting together a list with the new book. I started painting these guys back in I think 2003 and finished sometime in 2004
2245 Midnight's Wrath
585 The Heart of Midnight
Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak, Pair of Hand Crossbows, Potion of Strength, Armor of Eternal Servitude, Heartseeker, Black Dragon
330 Goline Spiderslay
Deathpiercer, Armor of Darkness, Manticore
100 Dark Elf Crossbowmen x10
100 Dark Elf Crossbowmen x10
100 Dark Elf Crossbowmen x10
55 Harpies x5
55 Harpies x5
198 Shades x10
Additional hand weapons, light armor, blood shade
176 Cold One Knights x5
Dreadknight with Crimson Death
100 Reaper Bolt Thrower
100 Reaper Bolt Thrower
175 War Hydra
171 Dark Elf Assassin
Additional hand weapon, Black Lotus, Rune of Khaine, Touch of Death
My manticore is only half painted - and has been in that state for five years - and I'm going to try and get him finished tonight. If I can't, I'm going to switch him out for a pair of sorceresses, as Dr. Carnivean will melt into a puddle of goo if he fields an unfinished miniature.
I would like to at some point drop the dragon and have dueling manticores, which will free up a hero spot to get a sorceress in there with a couple dispel scrolls so I can put up some kind of magic defense.
I would also love to do an alternate magic/shooty army at some point by picking two more bolt throwers to swap out with the hydra, some more shades or crossbowmen, and some dark riders, then going magic heavy with the characters.
The army I have right now is very beast-y, which is cool because I always loved the idea of the dark elves as breeding and training this menagerie of monsters, with their black arks as floating zoos full of unspeakable monstrosities.
I'm really looking forward to playing Bob's beastman list with this one, as it should prove to be one big 'Destroy All Monsters' smackdown!
